Default Stupid Question-Where to mount license plate?

Hiya Folks,
Finally got my license plate from the dealer and went to mount it today. This is for an 850XP. There are no obvious spots for it (although I must say, I only looked at the rear end of the bike as the rest was covered up with a cover). I could see drilling holes in the small storage compartment door for it but thought I'd ask the collective wisdom of the group if there is a better way.
Cheers,
cc

Is it a metal plate? In CA we have decal or sticker.
What I did was cut a chunck of plexiglass just a little bigger than the sticker. Then i drilled 2 holes in the top and I attach it to the rack extender bar with 2 nylon wire ties or zip ties.
It fits perfect between the dar and the deck. I took it off my 700 when I sold it and reattached to my 800.

In the same situation...so I haven't mounted my plate either. Right now I have it in a zip-lock bag along with registration paper in the storage box in the rear.

Really wish someone would make a license plate holder for ATV's.

I took the simple way and just used a couple of zip ties and hung the plate from the bar below the storage area and behind the muffler!

I would go with the zip tie route myself. I zip tie everything. Lucky you live in a state where you can license your atv.

Well...leave it to google again. Found this setup and think I will buy it. Probably install on the pull bar like rancher55 mentioned.

I took and cut a piece of aluminum plate a little bit bigger than the license plate. Then I drilled two holes in it to match the holes in the plate. Next step was to drill two holes in the muffler heat shield along the bottom edge. I got some small stainless bolts, washers and nylock nuts. I used the washers to create a gap between the plastic license plate and the aluminum plate so the plastic wouldn't melt. Looks ok and doesn't get in the way on the grab bar.

Thanks Folks,
I think $0.45 worth of zip ties are in order. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a factory option. I have the rear cargo rail and will probably just zip tie it there.

Zip ties will work, but with that metal edge the plate and a lot of bouncing around could lead to a broken zip tie. Had my tail light zip tied for the longest time, and it did work. When it did finally cut the tie, it was out on the trail and I almost lost the tail light.

For 13 bucks, I think the plate mount Biz linked would be a good solution.
