Thanks for the tips guys. I think I'll start with the plug first (cheapest) - NGK seems to be the preference on this board. I'll also look into the power commander - I haven't heard of that on a quad before.

Octane, you lost me with ""it is possible to have a DA of less than the actual altitude MSL". As for altitude, I ride above 5,000 100% of the time, with typical excursions up to 9,000+.
Now that I think about it, you might have hit on something with the clutch set-up. I bought my quad in Sacramento which is a lot lower than 5,000ft. I'll have to check the settings. Probably take me a week or so with the holiday weekend but I'll be back!

Hey, there's the cheap shot I was asking for earlier!
Primer you smartass (he's one of my riding buddies) I fill from the same gas pump you do (your turn to buy next time), but you're probably right about the heavy thumb. Now that I think of it, my poor gas mileage is probably due to all that idling waiting for you to catch up!

LOL..what I meant is actual altitude above sea level is not so important as the density altitude. Combination of baro press, temp and humidity determine the density altitude. That is what affects the engines performance. Densitity altitiude can vary greaty depending on the conditions at different locations even if the 2 locations are the same height above sea level.

I still say purchase a power commander usb it saves a lot of crap trying to set up your bike for altitude and performance add-ons, because if you decide to purchase a pipe later your going to need the commander anyway to set it up.

I have first hand knowledge of the heavy thumb!! Hard for me to keep up and I didn't have anyone riding with me. HaHa
