1997 Polaris 425 Magnum carburator problems
About 5 years ago a Polaris dealership diagnosed the stator being bad on this machine. The part cost was more than the bike was worth to them. I found a company that would repair the stator. I replaced the stator and put the mark on the timing cover on the mark on the motor case. I rebuilt the carb 3 times. Here is my problem. After getting some bad advise as to set the air/fuel mixture screw to 1.5 turns and shearing the keyway pin twice due to backfire i got some good advice that said I should turn it out 3 turns. Now that I have done this all of my backfiring and pin shearing has gone away. Here is my problem.
When the engine is cold it will crank and run until you shut it off. It idles fine and throttles up fine. When you turn it off it will not crank back up. The only way I can get it to crank back up is to take the diaphram off the top of the carb. Once this is done it will crank and run for 15 seconds. Then you put the diagphram back on and you can drive it till the cows come home as long as you dont shut it off. Help Im missing something. Other than throttle ther is only one adjustment screw which is the air/fuel. any help will be greatly apprecitated
