While it was sitting, I would start it up every week or so.There was about 2 -3 times I let it go 2 -3 weeks without starting it. During this 6 mos it had the same 1/3 tank of gas.

you might need to clean the carb but would some good gas in it and maybe even a carb type cleaner inthe tank and run it and it will clear up the issue omn its own if its not to bad. imo.
