Good news on the 14" wheel discrepancy for WI Riders...

Update via the WI ATV forum that I have been lurking waiting for the law to be changed...

"The ATV definition bill (SB 241) is scheduled for an Assembly floor vote on October 27th. (eliminates rim size in definition, allows 50 inch max width and increases low pressure tires maximum PSI from 6 to 10)

Our guess is the Assembly will do a "voice vote" (based on the bipartisan support this bill has received) which makes the process even faster and more streamlined on the 27th. Recall this bill has already passed the senate.

Assuming a positive result, from there the Governor has the option to veto the bill, sign it or do nothing with it. As I understand the rules, if he does nothing it becomes law after 30 days."

Here's a link to the bill with the wording changed, etc.

Re: ATV definition bill & amendment

On Thursday, November 5th the full senate approved the amendment that clarified the following two things:

2009 Senate Bill 241

The bill increases the maximum width of an ATV to 50 inches. The bill specifies that the width of an ATV must be 50 inches or less at the time of manufacture and that it be designed by the manufacturer to travel on three or more low-pressure tires in order to meet the definition. As to the requirements for a low-pressure tire, the bill eliminates the requirement for the size of the rim and increases the maximum operating pressure for a low-pressure tire to 10 pounds per square inch.

Assembly Amendment 1

To clarify changes made in the bill, Assembly Amendment 1 created two new provisions in
s.23.33 (6), Stats., relating to ATV equipment requirements. The amendment specifies that:

1. An ATV may not be modified so that its maximum width exceeds 50 inches. This means, for example, that an ATV manufactured with a width of 48 inches may be modified so long as the maximum width does not exceed 50 inches.

2. An ATV may not be operated with tires other than the low-pressure tires specified in the bill.
The bill did not refer to the operation of the ATV with these tires.

All that's formally left now is for the Governor to review, veto or sign.

Bills are scheduled to be sent to the Governor for signature on December 10th.

One last step, all but a formality now......

Proposal: SB-241 (09-2803)
Bill History: History of Senate Bill 241
Relating to: modifying the definition of all-terrain vehicle.

SB-241: Assembly amendment 1 concurred in on November 5, 2009

I did the out of WI state green sticker. We can purchase them the Hardware store next town over. Cost $35 a year vs $32 for 2 years through the WI state web site. I tired that one first but the system caught it.

I can ride on any street legally where I live I should be legal to come to Wisconsin and do the same. Off road use I can go anywhere a jeep can go plus use the ORV trails with a MPV license plate. Would this work to get around this horse crap.
