I'm runnig 1.5" spacers on my x2. I've run them on many atv's and a rhino with no problems. Just make sure to buy the billet aluminum type that are full circle, not the lug nut extenders. Those will not hold up. Some people choose to flip the tie rod ends instead of using spacers. It is free vs $75 for spacers. That can arguably cause more damage than spacers. The best option, of course, is to buy new rims with the right offset.
