I have 27" Mudlite XTR's on 14" ITP SS 108's on my Sporty 800. I was told by the dealer that is the largest you can go if you have stock suspension without a lift kit or spacers before you have clearence issues with the fenders. Does anyone know if this is true? Do I have to have both spacers and lift kit? Can I go any bigger without doing any mods? I was told that the lift kit is not good for the drive train because it changes the angle of it and causes to much wear and tear. I really want to go to a 30" Mudzilla but don't want to do all the mod work. If I could get away with only doing the spacers, it would be ideal.
do your self a favor and stick w/ the 27". you get into all kind of wear and tear problems and have to put lift kits in which is always a little hard on the rigging in my opinion. a couple of guys have put the stronger axles in and what not and because of the angle on the shafts have had issues. i think 28" will rub fenders some since i can make my 27" rub if i really push it. but this is just my .02 only.
I have 27s with a rear lift and front spacers and springs. Absolutly no rubbing even with two of my buddys sitting on the back and front racks. Another buddy has an 07 with 27s on ITP wheels HD front springs and NO lift. Under full compression in the rear the tires rubbed a nice little arc in the rear fenders. It looks like a professional arc LOL but it does rub under full squat.
Now to answer your question, I don't think 30s will fit without some pretty good mods. And ya lifts are kinda hard on parts. I broke a rear inner CV but a set of Gorrilas helped that out.
ask instigater about all the problems he had w/ a lift and gorillas on his. he had over heating to the point of melting boots. 30" tires would look cool and be a monster for traction, but after destroying my front cv stock being stupid w/ toqure. i couldnt even guess what would break first under extrem use. more then likely the front end would go or the roller cage at $300.00 plus so to me i'll stay w/ my small 27" lol.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]
Ya I really considered 28s, but I'll stick to 27s. And for the record, I have Instigators rear lift in mine and Gorrilas in the rear and never a problem with my boots overheating. I'm wondering if maybe Instigator had a few (or like 10) bad axles?!?!?!? When I ordered mine they took like 4 weeks for them to get shipped out. They said they were waiting on a shipment of updated CVs so I'm wondering if they knew they had a problem with their axles???
How many miles a year do you guys put on your machines? We do around 1200 to 1500 a year and the 2007 Sporty Deluxe 800 was the first machine I ever really had any problems with. Now that my job has changed and I will have more time off, that milage number should double and I hope I don't run into all sorts of problems. We ride in some pretty severe mud and do a bit of rock climbing and to date, none of the people I ride with have torn up anything major. Or it could be that we did and don't even know about it.
Mine is set up with 27" XTRs also and I like the rig. My buddy has an 05 700 with a High Lifter 2" and 28" ITP 589s. He has never had any problems with his ride, but I don't know if the extra .5" of grond clearence was worth raising the center of gravity 2.5"
Well, I decided to stay with the 27's which are going to be the black 14" ss 108's from ITP with Mudzilla on them. Should be a good combination. Going to do some online shopping today and buy them. I will slap on my old machined 14" ss 108's xtr's which are also 27's on my wife's 700. She currently has 12" ITP series 7 with 26" mudlites on it. Should look pretty cool. Thanks for the input.
