Default warn winch recall on contactor

warn is voluntarily recalling all 8 post contactors. these units were used with 2500lb to 3500lb winches. these units can be identified by the number stamped on them. they will have 4 post conectors and 4 bolts down thru them. the replacements only have the 4 posts. there have been instances where they got hot and caused a fire. they were used on all makes of atvs not just polaris from late 01 to late 05. check with your local dealer for more info.

Default warn winch recall on contactor

Thanks colt. I didn't get to use my winch until after the warranty was up. When I started using it, I could never count on the winch working when I pressed either the IN or OUT switch. Hopefully the new switch will remedy that.

Thanks for the heads up about the recall. I'm having trouble though locating the connector. On my old '04.5 it was there in plain view, but on my '06 500 EFI I don't see it unless it is under the center headlight pod?

I do not know where yours is, but don't waste anytime looking under the pod.

Hi Guys. Do you know where to look for this contactor on an 05 sportsman 400? I called my dealer and he said that it was behind the front right tire but I can't see it anywhere.

its behind the steel plate thats mountd to the frame by 2 bolts. if your sitting on the wheeler it will be on your right front under the fender. top part of frame. its about6" long and should have 4 bolt holes in the bottom of the plate where the contacter mounts.

I'm lazy and it looks like I'm going to have to take some stuff off to get a look at the contacts so .. since I have used my winch several times with no problems is this something that needs to be checked?

Yes you should check it. They are catching fire on there own without even using them. They seem to be drawing power all the time and overheating.
