Is there a overheating problem with the predator 500
I've never heard of it.........pretty sure it doesn't happen too. Some do think they "overheat"........when the fan comes on regularly. The fan is set at a low temperature as to keep the motor that much cooler........by running the fan a bit more......

My buddies Predator would overheat (or at least run hot) when he had an aftermarket CDI. The fan ran constently and had a lot of troubles starting it too. A couple of times it just shut down from being hot. Switched back to the stock CDI and it has no problems.

Is there a overheating problem with the predator 500
I had mine pred overheat once,It was because the heat sender(the plug in the rad)Broke,The wire broke off and this didn't allow the fan to come on. I had noticed that my pred ran hot after I big bored it,but never overheated. Now i use engine Ice coolant, rath air scoops and a PWR radiator. Now my pred take alot of hard riding to heat her up.
as for the cdi causing the overheating,,That is odd. What brand of cdi was it? I have the dyna-fs and haven't had a problem. Maybe, you needed to rejet the carb after putting on the cdi, It is possible that the cdi made the quad run lean, you may had fixxed the problem if you go to a bigger main jet.

It was an SRP CDI. It worked great as far as producing a higher RPM but apparently it advances the timing too much causing it to run hot and harder to start (even when its cold). This happens on most every make of bike with aftermarket CDIs. Thats why they warn you when you buy them that your battery must have full charge because your going to be cranking it alot.................
His Preddy was jetted perfectly before the CDI so I wouldn't think that any changes were necessary but who knows...............Anyone?
