Sgajan,
I have almost got it. New needle installed. The machine is running about 90% better. I also ran motor while unplugging transmission switches one at a time, It seems like it has something to do with one of these switches. This is one of those things where we have to eliminate things. I am waiting for parts for the clutch so I can ride it and see how it does. Did you check and set your valves? and check for a worn out cam? Exaust lobes worn out?

thought you said it was a sportsman 500, they dont have oil injection they are 4 stroke. If the needle and seat go bad they fill the engine oil with gas, take the cap off where you check tne oil and see if it;s overfull and smells like gas if so change needle and seat in carb and change engine oil.

Sgajan,
Did you check and set the valves? Did you run the machine and unplug the switches one at a time on the transmission? I am still working on this one a little at a time. Waiting for clutch spring still so I can ride it and fine tune the carb. You moved the needle clip all the way to the top and it did not run any better? It is hunting season and not much time to work on it.

Sgajan it can not be to much gas if it is backfiring. This is a lean condition (not enough gas and too much air). There are some people I have talked to and told me that the exaust lobe could be worn right off the cam that it was common for this year Polaris. I have not checked mine yet. Another thing I would like to try is a carburator from another machine. I have never had trouble solving problems with any machine but this one is pretty weird. I am going to be away for 1.5 weeks so I will sign off for now but keep me updated if you find anything as I will check this site when I get back from my hunting trip.
