Default Improved Sportsman headlight Bulbs

I remember reading a post about a better bulb for the sportsman headlights. After searching for a while I cant find it. Anybody know what it is? Seems they said you could even get the bulbs at walmart! TIA

Yes.......I think it was two days ago someone made a post soliciting on EBay for $1.00 instructions on where to go to buy 55watt low beam replacement bulbs which would then sell for $10.00 per bulb. I think the webmaster must have removed it because it was an obvious solicitation.

FYI.......I found replacement bulbs on the KIMPEX website. These are direct replacements for the Polaris Sportsman two front low beam bulbs. They have both 37.5 watt and 50 watt. These are GE units and the price is less than $10.00 each. I believe the stock ones are only 27 watt. Remember that more wattage means more heat......so when you replace them you should monitor initially very closely that they don't melt the stock housings.

Also FYI.......I removed one of mine previously and brought it to several auto parts stores AND Walmart. The guys at the auto parts stores didn't have a clue who made it or where to get it and WallyWorld didn't have it either.

Click the link below and then go to "ATV"......then go to "Winches and Electrical".......then go to "bulbs, lights".

Someday I'll get around to getting them myself.

Good Luck, Bob

The people in your auto parts stores are idiots. These bulbs are not made just for Polaris. They are automotive bulbs and the vast majority of auto parts stores have them. Our local WalMart stocks them.

The upper bulb is nothing but the exact same bulb that came out on almost every motorcycle made since about 1980.

They are also avalible at some auto parts stores and some WalMarts. The high power versions can be bought at almost any place that sells motorcycle stuff.

I wish Cornbread2 would take the time to investigate his incorrect information that these bulbs can be had at any parts store. Wrong! And I wish the people saying the GE 894 bulb works would notice it is a smaller housing with three tabs instead of four. The information on ebay is correct for these models. Not for any others !!

Things to keep in mind when using higher than stock wattage bulbs:

* The headlight enclosures were validated with 27W bulbs. Higher wattage means more heat, which can lead to warping, melting and sealing issues with the headlight enclosures.

* The contacts in the handlebar headlight switch are rated for 10A. Two 50W low beam bulbs put you very close to 10A during low battery conditions.

* Increased bulb wattages can cause charging system deficiencies which can lead to a dead battery, especially if you spend extended periods of time at idle.

I said the STOCK bulbs can be bought at any auto parts stores and the highpower power bulbs can sometimes be ordered at ANY auto parts store where the person behind the counter is not an idiot.

The lower bulbs are AUTOMOTIVE bulbs. They are used in many import and US made cars that come from the factory with fog lights.

I have personaly bought these bulbs at Walmart and parts stores many times for less than half what a Polaris dealer charges for them.

You are not the only sorce for such info.

Stop trying to sell us your BS.

We are capable of living without you.

A Polaris will eaisly pull two 55 watt bulbs and keep the battery well charged. It will not pull three 55 watt lights unless you are running at a very high RPM at all times.
