Default Scrammy starter problems

On my 2000 Polaris Scrambler 400 The electric starter use to not work when I first tried to start it up but worked fine after it had already been pull started and running. It clicks when you push the start button.
Now it don’t work at all, even after it has been running, just clicks. What could be the problem here, the connections, the solenoid? The battery seams to be fine, I checked the connections here and topped it off with distilled water and charged it with my Battery Tender Jr..

Make sure the battery is good(battery charge checker), check all connections from the starter back through the solenoid, to the battery.....and if the battery is good, then its probably the solenoid. I think, but not sure, that you can check the solenoid by turning the quad key on, and seeing if there is power to the battery side, and then hit the start button, to see if power goes through it.

It really sounds to me like a loose connection, or your battery doesn't have enough power to turn the quad over, so your starter is kicking out.

The same kind of problem can happen when the brushes are just about dead.
I had that problem, replaced the battery and it didn't help.
tore out the starter and the brushes were shot. replaced them and all was well again.

Yes. It uses a standard solonoid. Mine would do the same thing. The battery was good, but it just clicked. So I got a new solonoid thinking that was it. I went down to the local hardware store and got one for a lawn mower for a lot cheaper than the Polaris one. I only had to cut a small bracket off. But it bolted right one. Although that DID NOT solve the problem. Your problem is most likely the same one I had. The brushes on the starter are either corroded or worn out. They have tendency to do that, especially if you get water in the recoil housing and dont drain it often. You can buy a rebuild kit on Ebay for around $35. They can ba a pain to get at, but are very easy to rebuild.
