Help... possibly a stolen ATV, need vin help
Kaczman
Your bike probably came with a certificate of origin.
It's not a title but the BMV can turn it into a title.
The original purchaser of your bike probably got it from the dealer when he bought the bike.
If you can get that document, take it to the BMV and get your title.
Was the guy you bought it from the original owner?
Whoever that was probably still has it.
Good luck bro'.

You need to do the right thing and have the VIN checked to see if it's stolen. You won't get in trouble since you just bought it but if you get stopped 6 months from now and they run the VIN, you may have some 'splaining to do. If you have even the slightest concern that it might be stolen, you need to follow up. If you don't, you are encouraging quad thieves. I'm sure the kid you bought it from has at least a bill of sale from the previous owner, sometimes that's enough to get a title if the VIN is clean. If the person you bought it from doesn't have any paperwork at all, I'd be very suspicious.

Kaczman,
The Vin is etched into the horizontal frame section on the left side(sitting on it) of the left frame rail right under the leading edge of the floor board. In 1997 it had to be a full 17 digits. The etch is shallow and may be somewhat worn down. You will need to lay down next to the bike to see it. Make sure you clean the area as best as possible. Your local Polaris dealer has the original purchaser's name, but may not give it to you. Good luck, if it turns out it is stolen, have the cops go with you to "return" the bike! They will enjoy "talking" with the thief!!

Kaczman,
If you find the full vin PM it to me and I will look on my Dealership Polaris web site and give you the original
purchasers info ( if it is there ) You should be able to find it on the lower left hand frame just behind the front
tire, Good Luck!
