2008 Rancher 420 EFI performance
the number one way to more power, hmf utility aftermarket pipe and a efi optimizer, and a good old ngk9 spark plug, mod cost around 600.00 dollars youll see about 5 to 6 horsepower increase. i know the best mod i did to my 2007 420 rancher was ripped off the kenda bearclaw tires i bought for it. put a set of duro powergrip radials what a difference those tires make. you could not even give me set of bearclaws for free lol.

Who makes the best EFI optimizer? why didn't you like the Bear Claws. I have had a set for 3 years know and I love them!!! I can go just as fare as the ITP mud lites can.

i think the main optimizer and aftermarket pipe that is used for the 420 is hmf, the pipe and the optimizer, not much else out there, i think ive seen a eastern europe optimizer thats really cheaper, compared to the hmf, know nothing about it though. as far as tires go, the 420 rancher has a stiff suspension, compared to other brands especialy independant rear utilities, a radial tire realy improves the ride on the 420 rancher vs a bias ply tire, for example you hit a rut with the bearclaw at 12 miles an hour you get a good jolt in the handlebars, with a radial tire you can hit the rut at 25 miles an hour and feel almost no jolt, the comfort of the ride is like nite and day, the traction is like nite and day, everything is so much improved, im talking about my experience between the bearclaw and the duro powergrip radial, im sure any radial will give you beter results then a bias tire.

Oil!!!! This is the simplest mod you can do...it comes out of a bottle!
There is a whole new generation of synthetic oils that contain wet clutch safe organic friction modifiers. These are very slick, and the decrease in friction between moving parts can net you a noticeable performance increase!!!
For 10W30 and 10W40, I recommend Redline. For 5W30 I recommend Maxima 530MX, and for real cold weather Maxima Ultra 0W30. (Don't be scared off by the fact that Redline is JASO MB, it is still wet clutch safe! I notice an increase in torque/horsepower, and the engine revs up quicker, when running Redline!!! And, no clutch issues of any kind.)
All these oils are expensive! It amazes me how most folks will happily shell out a grand for an exhaust and other very expensive mods, then refuse to pay the price for a performance oil. Doesn't make much sense.......
