Riding Boots??

I don't want to sound old but, back in 88' I had a bone stock 86' TRX250R (wish I still did) and we were out riding in an old chat dump from the mines. My buddy had a 88' LT250R and we were having a jumping contest with several other slower bikes (showed them how to fly) early in the day my buddy an I were making jumps of 60 to 70 ft. On the last jump of the day I topped the hill and did a little 10 ft jump but hooked something in the sand and threw the bike sideways in the air. When this happened my foot sliped off of the peg and my foot hit the ground and the tire caught it and kicked it into the rear sprocket, the heel of my boot went between the chain and sprocket, and I ended up with a broken leg that no doubt would have been a way worse injury if not for the boots!!! Those boots were Donaldson cycles own brand Mr. Motorcycle boots (still have and wore up till 6mos. ago sprocket holes and all there was also a 6yr. insanity when I was quadless) now I have Alpinestars, great boots. I will not ride without boots ever again!!! Just my rambling

I ride a warrior in the same conditions as u do. mainly woods. i wear ocelot seris 2 boots but i hear alpine star are the best. they support your ankles and are fairly easy to get on. in the event of a wreck they can probably save an ankle. but they can kinda get in the way when u go to shift up cuz u cant get your whole boot under the shifter on my warrior. that may be different on your 4 wheeler though. but i would recommend some. good luck.

I rode without boots for a long time. I have weak ankles, and could get a slight sprain if I twisted them a little on landings or if my foot came off the pegs. Also got tired of burning holes in my jeans from the exhaust. So, I got a pair of THOR ATV boots and some riding pants. They work great for trail riding, no more sore ankles and the pants give me more "room". I'm not saying that THOR are the best - havent tried anything else - and as expensive as Alpine Stars are, I wouldn't want to get them dirty.
As for the shifter, you should be able to adjust it so you can fit your toe thru, but not your boot.

I rode with Oneal boots for a while. Mainly cause I have little feet and it was hard tofind any that fit. I bought a pair of Alpinestar M4. Not real expensive about $165, and they were a little hard to ride in for a few months. Really stiff, but now they are broken in right where they need to be. And plenty firm where they should be. They are good boots and I would recommend them to anyone. The Thor boots are a little less rigid.
