Pres. Obama is trying to decide whether or not to send more troops into Afghanistan. What do you think he should do and why?
General McCrystal wants 40,000 more troops so we can have any chance of winning the war. I think that if he needs them that we should send them in and be serious about winning. If we (the USA) are going to waffle and fight among ourselves about it we need to get out. Don't just leave the troops we have over there now in limbo, ( like Pres. Obama is doing)! Let's give them some real support. Start moving them in now so by spring there can be a real offensive against the Taliban.
If we do go in, I hope that the people in the USA will realize that it will have to be a long term commitment in order to get a reasonably strong and stable government in place that the Afghan people will trust. Like 10-20 years of commitment! This job will make Iraq look like a walk in the park!
If Afghanistan isn't a reasonably stable country it will pose an even greater threat to the stability of Pakistan, who already is becoming more unstable and has nuclear weapons.
This is a very complicated issue and will have a long lasting effects on not only their future, but ours as well!

I think he should send them. Why? Because they are support for the troops already there, also I think the politicians should let the military run this war...that's way it's supposed to be. Loosing is not an option. We have too many politicians that don't support our troops and that just makes things more dangerous for our fighting men and women. Politicians declare war....The military finishes it. Plain and simple in my eyes. Give them what they need to be successful and quit playing political games with their lives.

My son spent 15 months in Iraq and didn't lose a single man in their unit and he was in a scout unit!!!
He said they were very aggresive in their patrols and that is what's needed in Afganistan NOW!!!!
He had a few Humvees blown out from under him, took two AK rounds in the back and was a sniper, so he saw plenty of action!
Obama said during campaigning that Afganistan was a war "that we can't afford to lose". Now he is playing politics.
The General that he hand picked to run the Afgan war requested more troops in an August 30th report. What day is it now?

The biggest error in Vietnam was politcizing the decisions about what the military should or shouldn't do. The military is not designed to be a police force. It is designed to kill people and destroy things. If the government, in defense of our safety or Constitution, have to wage ware, then let them go for it and win it. Let the warriors be warriors and bring them home to a heroes welcome when the mission is accomplished. There are a lot of crazies watching the decision Obama is going to have to make. If he shows weakness, they will sense it like a predator senses spilled blood.

I almost lost dinner when I learned that John (America is always wrong when it goes to war) Kerry was in Afghanistan giving advice. Hasn't he and others like him led to the steady decline of this country? It's easy to figure out what to do with Kerry. Listen to what he says and generally do the opposite.

The Obama admin. has now said the MAY be able to make a decision on the troop levels by Nov. 7th.
Waffle for another 2 weeks! Obama has tried to do everything else so fast, what's the hold up on this? Could it be inexperience or just a lack of leadership?
