This is a very complicated issue and will have a long lasting effects on not only their future, but ours as well! What do you guys think?
Well put. Nuke anybody? Joking aside, it's a major issue for us as Americans over the long haul. Sucks to have to pay for this. They don't have any resources to pay us back with either...Unless we get into the heroin business.
Here's what I think we should do: Draw a new border in the south and secure to the best condition possible......tanks, troops, razor wire, trenches, WWII style...Pull all our existing troops out of the mountains back into this new "safe" zone (give them 4wheelers to get around quickly in the rough terrain). Then on a month by month basis, the new border is slowly moved north until we meet a resistance level that is unacceptable in time, effort, money and American lives. The remaining land can be offered to Pakistan or Uzbekistan if they're willing to fight for it. If they don't want it, the land is deemed "unorganized wasteland". During the process we extract peaceable families and resettle them in the south. The remaining combatants are harassed and killed off daily by an endless barrage of drones until there's none left. We squeeze them into the mountains with Pakistan permanently. Anybody convicted of foul play in the south is deposited in the north. Whatever southern land that is ultimately secured becomes the new Afghanistan. Give it a new name, like "New Afgan". Basically chop it up, keep the best and surgically eliminate the worst over time with reduced cost in lives and dollars.

Kind of like using Manhatten Island for a cordoned off prison. I can just see the movie now. Escape from Afghanistan. Maybe the could reprise Kurt Russel's role. I don't think there is any easy solution in Afghanistan. Another DMZ? Might work. I hope the higher ups in the administration will listen to the generals and other officers who have their boots on the ground and give them what they need to keep Al Qaeda and the Taliban on the run.

That's pretty much what I thought as well,with one exception, we should squeeze them between Pakistan and the southern area's into their mountain caves and hide outs and what the drones don't or can't get, hit them with 500 Lb. bunker busting bombs to seal them into the caves, then if they try to dig out, just pick em off like ground squirrels! LOL!
Then the most serious threat would be from the few suicide bombers that are left and dealing with these radicals is a much harder task. Trying to identify them before they blow themselves and innocent people up is a very difficult task. The only way to do this is with the help and support of the general public and a reporting system that would rival our own 911 emergency lines of communication. Even then you would have to be extremely careful not to walk into an ambush and get blown up in the process! Risky business!

Yeah, the suicide bombers. They certainly are a problem. If you make the secure area extremely attractive, maybe they won't want to blow themselves up (as much).

They do have a warped view of life to put it mildly. The only vests they seem to know about are suicide and bullet proof. They can carry around a RPG launcher but have sandals on their feet. And then to top it off, they're told they'll have 70 virgins attending their every desire in heaven. I suppose, to a guy who lives in a mountainous, barren, area of the world with very little to keep them gainfully employed this looks pretty inviting. I don't think God sees things quite this way, though.

It truly amazes me that they recruit such young people to do that too. Don't they want a better life for their children?
Do they tell them when they're done watching Ahkmed Bob Squarepants that they still have to take out the trash and blow up the local market?
