I see a lot of politicians talking about 40 million (some say 50 millioin) uninsured people in this country. But, I never see much said about how many of these people are uninsured by choice. I suspect a lot of people simply choose to spend their money on things other than health insurance. I know I'm tempted. That insurance money I pay each month would make the payment on a nice vehicle...and my wife wants granite counter tops. Hmmmm...

After all of his promises to NOT raise taxes President Obama now says(admits) that taxes will have to be raised to pay for the Obama care plan.
IMO we need to reduce the cost of health care before any govt. plan is forced on us. How about attacking the rampant fraud in the medicare and medicaid system, and refusing to hand out free health care to illegal aliens?
Those would take a huge chunk out of the costs we all pay now. Can't pay your bill? How about doing some community service to work off what you owe? The tax payers have paid your bill, so how about showing a little respect and gratitude by helping others?
I'm sure some of you have idea's too. Lets hear them!
Don't like these ideas? Would you rather be in the 50-65% tax bracket? And yes I have heard those figure's being talked about!
We need to squash this Obama care plan and fast! write, e- mail, or call your congressmen and representatives and voice your opposition to this govt. health care idea!

Your comparison of healthcare vs war costs are so asinine I’m not even going to bother.

The $100 BILLION DOLLARS per year is just what they are telling us right now – any fool knows if the government sez it costs X amount the real cost is X times ten. Just for starters – the $100 BILLION DOLLARS every year does not include paying the doctors – add another $25 BILLION every year right there. And we KNOW there are more hidden costs we are not being told about.

Socialized healthcare does NOT work well in Canada. Check our Northern border – the healthcare industry is BOOMING because Canadians are coming South for the healthcare they cannot receive in their own country. Entire hospitals and clinics have and are being built just to handle the influx of customers paying with Canadian dollars. In Orange County where I live there are more MRI machines than the entire country of Canada.

Here in WA, public hospitals are supported by property tax funds. As a public hospital, they cannot turn away anyone who comes in--including the uninsured, illegal immigrants, etc. The hospitals, in turn, tax property owners and overcharge the insured to cover the losses from the uninsured.

If you think you pay for too many uninsured and illegals now, wait ‘til this bill passes and ALL of their healthcare will be “free” – not just emergency room visits.

No comparison what so ever. What I pay for insurance on my auto, home, etc is only what I chose. I decide on what I want covered by how much, and what deductable I have, and I also decide before the purchase if I want to insure a Ferrari or a Pinto. Or, I decide to cancel the house insurance altogether and get only liability on the cars. Bottom line – I decide what I pay – not what Uncle 0bama decides for me. Dear Leader wants me to pay for every single person who can get into the country (legally or illegally) no matter what life style they live.

For the record, I'm not in favor of big government. I do believe that we need to take the profit out of healthcare.
It was government influence that caused this mess by requiring banks to give loans to people who had no business getting a loan. And yes, I think private enterprise can handle it better than the government.

Taking the profit out of 7% of our economy is exactly the wrong thing to do; at this time or any other. There is no way the government can run healthcare cheaper and more efficiently than private enterprise, and there will be no other place to go once they screw it up.

The bottom line always comes down to "you pay". So we might as well get the insurance companies and profit motive out of the equation.
Just my opinion. Open to additional thoughts, rants, etc.

There will ALWAYS be a profit motive. Do you think all of the new medical innovations that have come out are not profit driven? Without profits, why (and how?) should companies design and build new devices? Just one very small example – high end (i.e. – expensive) leg prostheses can cost $100,000 plus – paid for by the evil insurance companies, or the government can save a few bucks and whittle you a peg leg.

The big question is - Do we REALLY want our healthcare system to resemble the DMV?

I need to update my comment. In recent days, since I made the posting, I've seen several people in the news commenting on the voluntarily uninsured. (Do you suppose they have been reading this forum?) A newscast this morning said that 40 percent of the uninsured are that way by choice. So, when Obama or anyone else says 40 million people can't afford health insurance, they are exaggerating. Nearly half those people could afford it, but are just exercising their freedom to choose how to spend their money.

I've also got to wonder about the Canadian system. No doubt you can find people who like it, but you'll notice more than a few Canadian license plates in parking lots of hospitals and clinics in border states in my region. Why would people drive to this country and pay for treatment they can get free in Canada?

I do think our healthcare system needs improvement, but you've got to wonder if nationalized healthcare would be an improvement.

It certainly wouldn't be what they'd offer us.

It's not so much what they're offering us, but what they're giving us.

At the rate they're going, birth control and vaseline should be given away.

I say leave it alone. We are already heading for deficits that will eclipse the gross demostic output of our economy. In other words we're going to outspend our output. Never a good idea. I think, if this keeps, up we'll not be able to pay the interest on our loans, never mind the principle.

NO! Don't leave it alone! We will become a third world nation that thinks the health care system in Canada looks sweet! We need to stand up and fight this Obamanation!
write to your representatives and tell them you won't stand for this bunch of BS!!!
Tell everyone that you think will listen and even those that won't! We can stop this and god help the future generations if we don't!
