Hi folks! I've had my DS since Sep 8, 2001 and all I've done to it is a White Bros slipon. Since my last ride I've decided to replace the Mikuni with either a Lectron or a something better than the stock one.

I've done some reading and searching but didn't find exactly what I need. What's the best carb for a stock 2001 that's reasonably priced? I'm thinking Lectron but I'm open to suggestions. I am willing to spend upwards of $350 give or take.

My main riding is Pismo and Glamis. I rarely ride anything but sand.

You can obtain lectrons from fastbygast they are the master dist.they can also set you up with the cable assy.Kevin is the man to talk too but go with at least the 44.I have run the 44.40.38.48 and the infamous hp46hv and the the 44 for the money is the best run you will get.but a mickey48 will lay the smack on all of them for all around preformance. And a FCR will put all to comers to shame on every level. But is also the most expensive.

Don't forget to budjet for a different throttle housing if you go with a Lectron. The stock throttle won't open the carb all the way.

My 2 cents - I love my Lectron 46HV !!!

My bike woke up big time with the HV46... you'll be surprised how much that one item will boost performance. MRDS is right.. you'll need a new thumb throttle.. either moose or terry cable.

YOU'LL ALSO need your intake ported as well to take advantage of it.

All of that on a $350 budget is near impossible unless you pick up some good used deals.

How about if I just got the HV46 and a new throttle? I'm not looking for a race machine but I would like to be able to beat my buddy's Raptor. Could I do that for under $400? I could go higher but would prefer to not go above $500 total.

And thanks for all the feedback guys. Very nice to see.

If you go too fastbygast and talk to kevin you will be able to get a lectron 46 with a throttle and a HV insert for under 400.00 last i checked under 350.00. eric dose add a idle circute to his but i have yet to have a idle problem with my standard lectrons

I'm kinda curious why I would "have" to get my intake ported? I can understand it would be desirable but "have to"?

I HAVE STATED BEFORE I WILL PORT INTAKES FOR NO CHARGE I LIKE DOING IT.
AND THE HV PART OF THE LECTRON IS A ADD ON PART YOU CAN OBTAIN FROM LECTRON IT USED TO BE ADVERTISED ON THERE SITE BUT ERICS OLD PARTNER THREW A FIT SO THEY COULD NOT CALL THERE MODDED CARBS HV'S BUT THEY STILL SOLD THE PARTS LAST I HEARD. AND THAT IS WIERD BECAUSE THEY SOLD THE 46HV WAY BEFORE ANY ONE ELSE KNEW WHAT A LECTRON WAS.

I heard from Kevin at FastByGast. I hope to hear from OMW(Eric?) soon.

Kevin says they are getting better results from the Power Jet Lectron 44mm. They have them in stock for $339 but I haven't seen anyone comment on the 44.

in my first post i posted i had used the 44 before and yes it will do a great job for you.it is the most popular one for the ds.i like twist throttles myself but there are several manufactures that make 44 mm thumb throttles its not something special.

I stand corrected. I guess I read right over that. Will I need anything else to bolt it on? In other words does it fit on both ends like the stock carb? I won't need to get any adapter to make the airbox and intake port fit it? I believe I will need to get a different throttle whether it's a thumb or twist right? The stock throttle won't move far enough?

Looks like I may be going to Pismo sometime late June so I need to get this done soon.

I have never run an airbox at all but i imagine it will fit due to the fact its so close and the air tube is so plieable. But i would at least remove the lid or drill holes in it.
