I bought a big gun overrev box for my 06 ds650 and I just now noticed that it's not the right one!! The original cdi has 5 long wires that lead to a round plug. The big gun has no harness on it at all, just a rectangular opening with 6 prongs in it. I'm thinkin I got the wrong year because the package has "ds650" right on it but the label is scratched off before that. Anyone got any advice? I know I heard of somthin like this before but it was a while ago. I tried contacting who I got it from but no response yet.

Can you post a pic of it cause 00' still has a pig tail with a connector on the end of it. Maybe it will help us to understand better what you have.

Am I missing something? If your new Big Gun CDI looks just like the stock one that you took off, what is keeping you from just attaching the existing plug from your wiring harness (that was previously plugged into your old CDI) into the new Big Gun CDI?

The big gun I bought looks just like the pic up there ^ for the 04, but the stock cdi is not like that at all. same size and shape but there are 5 wires that come off of it and go to a round harness connector, the wires are about a foot long or so. I'll post a pic of the original when I get a chance.

It sounds to me like your stock CDI and wiring harness are the older style, which baffles me, because you say your bike is an 06. Did you buy your bike brand new?

Very weird. I believe that the first bikes that had the new style CDI boxes (with the built in prongs and a higher rev limit) were the 02 Bajas. All 03's and up, both regular and Baja, have the new CDI box style. I personally have an 03 Viper and an 04 Baja X, and both have the new style box. Why your 06 has a CDI box from a 2000, 2001, or 2002 regular is a mystery to me. I guess the only thing you can do is buy a Big Gun in the older style while they are still making them.

Dude, that is funny. I am laughing as I type this.

Reminds me of the first time I used a torque wrench, and did not take note of the difference between foot pounds and inch pounds.
