i was looking at a 1998 dodge ram 3500 extended cab flat bed 4x4 and it is owned by horse farmers and has 4,000,000 million plus miles on but looks like new runs like new and drives like my old 99 that had only 100,000 miles on it and they only want 4,000 thousand dollars for it and i inspected everything and its all fine.do you think its worth it?

4 Thousand for a vehicle with 4million miles sounds high to me. Is it the cummins? I know they are very reliable, but 4 mil is a LOT. I did a search on Edmunds . com, it will only let me put in 400,000 miles. With the diesel it came up with a private party quote of $2300. IMO, not worth it. Just tried KBB . com, it came up with 11K. It would only let me put in 900,000 miles. Do not know which one to believe..

I don't want to sound negative here, but I did the math.

10 year old vehicle
4 MILLION miles

means the 3500 had to be driven 1,096 miles EVERY DAY for 10 years. That means if it was driven 24 hours a day, every day it would have to average 45 mph. That's got to be a record - right!?!?!

Are you sure about the miles? 400,000 maybe!

That is allot even for a Cummins. I belive in Cummins through and through but even I know the engine had to have a rebuilt or it will be needing one soon. If its been rebuilt check the rer diff both dana 80's or 70's as that is usualy the most neglected part of a truck that beeing no oil changes. If it a auto garanteed the trans has ither been overhauld or a reman unit installed!!!!! If no engine overhaul has been done $1000.00 sound like a better price!

My point is, if they say it has 4 million miles, offer $40 and a Taco Bell coupon. They may just be crazy enough to take it.

Heck, if it is 4 million, I'd be seeing how much Dodge would want to buy it for. That's some good advertising there.
