Congrats on your new purchase workin so well for ya Pred! The Mega-cab is a great looking truck and there Ain't one one that can trash a Cummin's! I have been considering getting a new truck myself. I've heard the Duramax seems to be a good choice as well, everyone that has the Allison trans loves the package. For an SUV, I have a Dodge Durango and I am not impressed with the overall cab amenties, fit & finsh and layout.

To bad you can't build to personal choice. I'd take a cummin's motor, Allison trans with a Ford interior in the Mega cab layout. I know you can't get it, but since I'm dreaming I would make it a long bed as well!

I should say though my pulling truck is a 96' F-350 quad cab 4X longbed with the 7.3 and it has been an a great rig over the years for me. It would be sweet to upgrade though!

What do you have to do for the long bed. Go buy a whole new bed and put it on I suppose? I wonder why they don't offer that stock... Just too long I guess.

YOU NEED TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO A AFTERMARKED COMAPANY THAT WILL EXTEND THE WHOLE PKG FRAME/DRIVELINE AND ADD A BED. YOU SEE THEM ALL THE TIME IN DIESEL MAGAZINES.

Lack of a full size bed I think is the biggest drawback to the mega, IMHO.

I really liked my 03 SRW quad, and now have an 06 dually quad laramie H w/heated leather, nav system, satallite radio 6 disk changer...

They build nice trucks. Mine's a 5.9 so I prefer the stick over the 4 speed auto, but the 68RFE 6 speed auto that comes with the 6.7 is quite impressive.

Supposidly there may be a crew cab/long box coming in 08 or 09, which would be sweet.

The mega cabs are sweet, but I wont own one until they put out a long bed. The back seat in a regular quad cab is tiny. I used to own one. It had a hemi and was a nice truck. But now I love my long bed Duramax Chevy.

What kind of toyhauler do you have? I'm looking for something in the 15K range but everything I've looked at so far is 35' or shorter.

I've heard that with the 6.7 there isn't a hole lot of there for the aftermarket right now. I know there is a lot for the new D-max, but if i was to buy the cummins i would have to go with the old 5.9 with the six speed. The Dodge automatic tranny is no comparison to the allison. I think the new six speed in the new Dodges are only in the 4500 and 5500 chassis, not sure though. Either way go with the D/A combo in the Chevy. Although with diesel prices so high I might have to go with a gasser and save a few bucks.

There are some things for the 6.7, but to me it makes plenty of power stock. In the pickups, the auto is a 6 speed 68RFE. There is a paddle switch you can shift it with if you choose, which really works slick with the stock exhaust brake (actually a function of the variable vein turbo). I actually like it as well as the Allison.

The cab and chassis trucks with auto get an Aisin auto, which has been used in other medium duty commercial trucks. It is said to be super-heavily built. Mainly I think it was used in the cab and chassis because it has a provision for transmission driven PTO.

The auto with the later 5.9's was the 48RE, which was stronger than the 47RE it replaced in 03, and could handle a Jake brake and keep warranty after 06. They were fairly durable for stock power, but having only 4 speeds IMHO was a huge drawback.

Unfortunately the newer trucks of all brands (that meet 07 emissions) don't seem to get the same fuel economy.

That's why I ended up with a stick shift 06, with jake brake...

SINCE 07 ON ANY DIESEL TRUCK BEING 6.7 CUMMINS 6.4 P/S OR D-MAX THERE IS NOT ALOT OF ACCESSORIES AVAIL YET!!! THIS DUE TO THE NEW EMMISSION REGULATIONS. IF YOU BUY A RAM 2500 OR 3500 YOU GET A 68RFE WITCH IS CHRYSLER'S OWN 6 SPEED. THE CAB&CHASSIS TRUCKS YOU GET A AISIAN AS68RC SIX SPEED. BOTH BEING EXCELLENT TRANNY'S. I WOULD TAKE A CUMMINS ANY DAY OVER ANY OTHER DIESEL AS I THINK YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET AND THE CUMMINS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST DIESEL AVAILABILE IN A LIGHT DUTY TRUCK!

What scared me about the 6.7 is you read about people getting like 15 on the highway, along with problems with the emissions stuff (cooled exhaust recirculation, particulate filter).

I had an 03 Laramie 3500 SRW with the NV5600 and jake that would get 21 on the highway if you kept the speed down. I decided I wanted a big toyhauler that would require a dually, but with fuel heading toward $4 (and probably higher), MPG was important to me so I wanted to avoid the 6.7.

I ended up with a used 06 Laramie H (heated leather, power everything, nav system 6 disk, lifetime Sirius) with the G56 stick and jake already on it. It will get 19.something on the highway, which I can live with. (The G has a lower 6th gear, and dual wheels add some drag).

I figure eventually they will figure out how to make better MPG with the new emission stuff (wish the big 3 would compete over mileage, rather than HP or Torque), and Dodge is finally coming out with a regular crew cab that will hopefully come with a long box... If they do, I might get a new one.

On a side note, if you haven't driven a F-450 pickup, take one for a spin. Although I couldn't handle the idea of removing the cab to get to most things on the engine, that wide front axle is amazing. The thing is longer than my truck, but the front wheels angle so sharply that it has a way better turning circle. It felt like it could turn a circle completely inside the turning circle of my truck. All pickups should turn like that. Ford apparently offers the wider axle of the F450 as an option on the F350 duallies...

Maybe Dodge will do the same thing...

I know you can on the new D-max but im not sure on the othere. Can you take the DPF off on the cummins and powerstroke. I've heard on the D-max you can gain a few mpg and the power is much better as well as the smoke coming from the tip. Of course this is illegal so you better no get caught or go to the dealer as the will void your warranty, but hey if i had the money i would do it.

As I understand it, anyway, the 6.7 has pressure and temp sensors on both ends of the DPF, so the presumption is that it will set codes and turn on CEL if messed with...

If not tuned after you remove the DPF any truck will through codes at you, but i know for the D-max there are at least three differnt companies out there that you can get something from them to reflash the comupter so it doesn't throw codes at you.

I don't doubt that your getting good milage, but is this from the DIC or hand calculated, if from the DIC try hand calculating it and im guessing it will be a bit lower, but if you are really getting those numbers, congrats.

Ill stick with my tundra for now, I had a dodge offroad 01 model with the 360 magnum and it would pull a stump outta the ground but it couldnt touch my tundra for an every day driver and still pull anything I put behind it without any trouble.

If I upgrade from it, I would have to go with the new tundra full quad cab.(next couple of years there is talk of a toyota diesel and a 1ton option)

Only measuring what your truck gets while going downhill doesnt count.
