Just got back from Deadwood, SD. for atv riding in the black Hills National Forest. I stayed at Wild Bill's campground. The cabin we stayed in was very nice for $90.00 a night for the three of us to stay there. The people that own the campground are super nice people. We rode 20 miles the first day 57 miles the second day and 58 miles the third day. You can ride many different ways out of the campground and it was the neatest riding I had ever done. We saw numerous deer probaly 20-30 total. Elk 2 out of 3 days that we were there, turkey, and a coyotee. Very neat

What type of riding was it? Just trails or true off road riding?

It was every thing we road the trails, loging roads, roads high ways and whent hill climing no mud but still a lot of fun. The rangers told us that in 2009 it will be ragulated on were you can and cant ride right now there is very little you cant ride. The ranger just asked us to stay on the trails that were already there to respect the land so we did the best we could. very owsome riding.

Will there still be trails to ride on so every one can still do some of the riding in black hills we respected the land were ever we went and picked up trash if we found it if we could cary it to a place to get rid of it properly.

If it's public land, don't count on anything being left open. One part of oregon just lost 6000 miles of riding.

that is to bad were I live there is nothing but privet land and most of the time the people who have permision respect it but there is always some one to do some thing to piss the land owner off who dont have permision and then its off limits to every one. That is why the group I ride with we travil all over to ride trails and parks ow well Iowa is missing out on a lot of money.

Public land really is not public land. If it was it would be open and not be closed down by crappy politicians and wacked out individuals. I still can't believe there are so many idiots out there that think public land is only for them and no one else. Last time I checked public land was supposed to be for the public.

I just got back from a second great trip to the black hills stayed around the Keystone area we found a nice riding area. The area had nice trails and we road the area for a day and we also found some great trails north of hill city had a great time we respected all land and trails. I hope there is always going to be a trail system out there I grew up in the black hill my family spent almost every summer out there camping and fishing I would love to live there. I also whent and talked to a old friend at the toffee shop in Keystone he is loving living out there and I hope I can do the same some day.

Where did you find information, on where to stay, and atv regulations? Im planning on a trip next summer, and would like to know more about the trails available, and where to get info and maps.

well I just got a group together and went out there to ride we dint really know we talked to a forest ranger and he gave us a map that shows all trails and forest roads some you cant ride on some are closed some months of the year. In south dakota you can ride on almost any raod if your atv is registerd in your state we road every were into town and from were we camp I have a member ship at Hart ranch resort we stay in cabins there only down fall is we cant ride out of the park some one had a miss hap in the park and ran into a new camper. There is camp grounds and places to the north of rapid city by dead wood were you can leave the park on trails but we just stay around Keystone and Hill City. we were asked by the forest rangers to stay on the trails that were all ready there so that is what we did to respect the area we also rode a lot of loging and forest roads you can ride miles on those the highest pount we got was around 7200 feet very nice look out. I have not been in the areas south of hill city but it sounds like there is a lot of places to ride there but we just go and find trails and keep them on a gps and go back to the area again we had a group of ten this last time and we all had a blast.
