The Spangler Hills BLM open area is south of Ridgecrest. Trona Pinnacles is directly east of Spangler. In the open area, you can ride anywhere and make your own trails, but note that the Pinnacles are in a limited use area, so stay on the established trails and roads when you are riding there.

Had not been up there in many years. We rode there today, and it was a great ride. The trails are mostly sandy and fast, but whooped out in many places. Made the mistake of riding the Rancher (breaking in a new 420), instead of a sport quad. Wish I had been on the 400EX.....it has Works suspension and eats big desert whoops for breakfast!

The trails are fun, but if I were spending a whole weekend there, they would get a bit boreing....because it's pretty much the same stuff everywhere, without much variation. Still, it's the kind of stuff the kids enjoy.

Trona Pinnacles is worth seeing. It's weird stuff and lots of scifi movies have been filmed out there.
