Any weekend I am not riding somewhere else, I ride the trails behind Lake Arrowhead. Love the challenge of that narrow woods trail stuff......which we have precious little of it here in the southland! I ride the Rancher 4X4 in winter when there is snow (great snow riding up there sometimes!), and the 400EX when the trails are clear. We stage from Miller Canyon near Silverwood Lake, and ride up the fire roads to Pinnacles staging area and pick up the trails there.

If there are some of you who have never been, I would be glad to be a guide for your first ride.

-------------------------
Southern California Deserts and Mountains....

Desert: 450R, 400EX
Technical Trail: Rancher 420 and 350 4X4's
Kids: Two 250EX's and TRX90
Dual-Sport Bikes: KLX250S and XT225

Past rides: 300EX, 2wd Rancher 350, Recon, TRX90, Z400, LT160, LT80, Warrior, Blaster, CRF230F

We are doing Ocotillo the weekend of the 24th. Might do a quick Miller Canyon ride this weekend or maybe the 17th.

Looks like the weather is going to be to hot this weekend for anywhere in the desert!

We decided to do Ocotillo last minute. Actually wasn't to bad if you were in the shade or moving on the quad.

Will probably do a quick Miller Canyon this weekend if anyone is interested in that........

Saturday later morning or very early afternoon looks good for me. Should be cooler this weekend! You take hwy 138 east past Silverwood Lake, then turn left at the sign that says "Miller Canyon Unit". Then immediately turn right onto a dirt road (2N37), and there are two staging areas up a couple hundred yards. I like the second one, because it has more room for trailers. You will need an Adventure Pass for parking, or risk a ticket.

The lower portion of the ride is semi-rough faster fire roads, then up on top (behind Lake Arrowhead) it turns into fun but challenging 50" wide woods "quad single track". Mostly semi-technical, but full-on technical in a couple of spots. Definitely not suitable for beginners. It's about a 2+ hour ride if you go all the way to the Deep Creek bridge.

E-mail me at reconranger@adelphia.net anyone who is interested.

How about 10:00 Saturday morning?????

I have the choice of taking the Rancher and going looking for some the more technical trails, or the 400EX and avoiding the more nasty stuff. It can all be done with 2wd, but in the more technical stuff it is "nice" to have 4wd here and there. What do you all think??? What are you up for???

Anybody else???? All are welcome!

Reconranger, LA90043,

10:00am sounds great. I got a 4x4 and would love to push to see what it could do, so I'm game for the technical stuff. Dont mind a couple of war wounds on the plastic or belly.

LA90043,
The Adventure Pass you can get on the way up, at Sports Chalet in Rancho Cucamonga just off the 15 freeway. The address is 12449 Foothill Blvd, Rancho Cuc. 909-987-4321. They open on Sat at 9:00am so you could be in Silverwood by 10-10:15am easy.
The Adventure Pass is $5/day or the better bet is $30/year. Sports Chalet is in the corner next to the 15 Freeway in the same Shopping Center as Living Spaces....
Is your quad 4x4????

So, then we can make it a technical trail adventure! In that case, if we have time we can try the section of 3N34 between Deep Creek and Crab Flats.....lots of big rocks!

Recon & LA,

First off.....Sorry I bailed so fast without saying Thanks and Goodbye. I was later then I thought and had to jet.....

Next. Recon Thanks for guiding the way, it was a blast...I got to see a lot of the Mountains and had some great people to ride with. Hope to ride with you guys again .
By the way, the way out the ride was 23.5 miles to the trail head @ Millers Canyon...all in all I would say about 50-60 miles max.

Lastly. I think I did some damage to my thumb helping that guy on the dirt bike...It is almost the size of a golf ball and I can barely move it. War Wound to remember the ride.

Till next time,
Attila
