hello all I have a grizzly 660 4wd 2004 model. I am looking for new tires. I mainly ride in mountainous terrain hard pack trails and gravel and grassy roads. I have been looking at different tires and am looking for a good 26 inch tire.

For the riding you described.... That is too easy.... Maxxis Bighorn !

Though you might want to wait ... rumors are that a lighter version Bighorn 2.0 is coming out soon...

The 25" tires measure out at 26" a lot of guys up here in New England run them... You could probably run the acutally 26" Bighorns.I am running my stockers until the Bighorn 2.0's come out... or until I get stuck more often than not... right not my stockers do pretty good! I am also considering the Maxxis Zilla (not mudzilla) tire. I have heard / seen too many headaches with weak sidewalls on the ITP Mudlites / Mudlite XTR's. Since I ride rocky trails as well.. I can't afford sidewall problems... My stockers which are maxxis have taken one heck of a beating in the rocks! My rims are proof of the abuse... and they still hold up just fine!

HOLD UP, PULL AND CLEAN OUT IN THE MUD?????

Any others anyone recommends other than the Bighorns? When do these new Bighorns come out?

ITP 589s seem to be pretty durable with lots of grip.

If you had the choice between Bighorns, Interco Swamplites or 589 M/S which would you go with?

I think I'm going with the swamplites for my next tire but, I don't think they are the best for the riding you described.

what do u think of the xtr's, are they made by mud lite or swamplite? terra cross

I think the Swamplites would work well for you. At the price of them you could save some $$$ to spend on something else. I think the 589's are pretty hard. All three tires I think would be pretty good choices. I can only speak for what I ran and run. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I just bought a set of Kenda executioner 27" for my 2007 polaris sportsman 500. By far the best move I have made since adding a winch. I do lots of woods riding and they are great. They are a good all around tire. Next to no vibration at low speeds and handel very well on all teraine. the only problem i ran into is that i for got to order front wheel spacers at the same time. but with a set of 26" you should be fine.

I didn't hear mud as a criteria. Since thats the case, for good trailriding as you describe above any of the following should be a good fit

ITP Terrcross
Maxxis Bighorn
Kenda Bearclaw
Goodyear Rawhide

These are all good solid trail tires, well suited for the terrain you describe, that come in 26" sizes. If you plan on doing alot of mudding, consider Swamplites, but ITP mudlites would probably give you a better performance on other types of terrain as well.

589's and Executioners are in a class of their own. These guys are big and heavy with a ridiculous tread, and they are really made to endure the worst terrain you can possibly imagine. Like, if there was a boulder infested swamp covered with two feet of snow on the side of Mt Everest you wanted to go ride in, that kind of thing. Your quad would get beat into a little wet spot on the side of a mountain before these tires gave out on you.
