New member, just wanted to say hi. I've had quads before (Poo magnum 325/Kaw kvf 650) but have been out for a few years (bought a house, got married & had a baby) but I recently bought a 1997 Suzuki KQ 300 (big step down from the kaw) and hope to put some miles on this summer. We still have quite a bit of snow here yet in Newfoundland, it will be another month before I get to really use it. Hopefully it will last me a long enough until I can afford a new one.

Just bought a 95 300 a month ago. Great machine, looks identical to yours. Mine is my first quad ever, but have a feeling I will have this one for some time now. Mine had under 3K miles when I got it. I've put another 100 miles on it since, only problem so far is my brakes. I find that it does really well in mud (with the right tires). Much better than I expected this heavy, smaller quad to do. I have heard, but not experienced that they also float??? Have fun.

Float? not a chance, I can't believe how heavy these things are, I thought this little machine would be light but the front drive shaft looks like it probably weighs 25 pounds alone. What tires are you running? I was thinking of getting some Duro Buffalo 4 ply to replace the stock (and original) 2 ply dunlops. This was the only decent tire I could find in the right sizes.

It should float if you have a decent amount of air in the tires and you're not on it... but be careful... they like to roll over and get their bellies rubbed...

Those goodyear tires seem pretty pricey compared to others. I just priced 4 new Buffalo's, around $330 CAN tax in. I'm not sure if I want to spent that much on this old machine but I'm pretty sure the original tires are not going to last more than two rides in the terrain I have to cross to get to some trails. There is lots of tread (for oem anyways) but there are some bad scars in the sidewalls.

Welcome to the board! My parent's new dog was a rescue from Newfoundland. They have a summer place near Truro, NS.

Looking at the tires posted if you have 12" rims and need 25" tires I found my Mudlites on ebay new for less that $220 US shipped. There are lots of choices in those sizes from Dunlop, ITP, 'Zilla, and others.

Yeah, but worth every penny. They are pricey. Just throw some fix a flat in all your oems. It will really seal up any leaks you might get over time with those older tires. Good Luck. Can any auto shop mount these? I doubt the dealer will be fussy on mounting a tire he didn't sell. Turns out, I can get mudlites for the same price as the Buffalos locally, the suzuki dealer sells 25 inch mudlites for $75 installed. This machine takes 24s in the front so he would have to order them in. The only concern I have with the mudlites is they are 6 ply and with only having a 300 I'm wondering if they would suck out what little power I have. I'm going to the dealer to pick up an oil filter so I will compare them with a 2 ply similar to what I have to see how much heavier they are.

I think I've figured it out.

I'm getting mudlites:
The back tires I will get at the local Suzuki dealer, he buys 25x10x12s in bulk and sells them for $75 each installed.
The fronts (24x8x11) I will get at the local Yamaha dealer who sells them for 20% less the price listed in the Motovan catalog plus tax and installation.

I've read in a few places that Mudlites have a soft rubber compound and wear out fast but according to ITPs website they are now making them out of the same rubber that the 589s are made of. I had 589s on my p650 and they held up very well, the only issue I can see is the Mudlites being too heavy for the old 300.

Places to ride... mmmm.. what would you like? A lazy ride from St. John's to Port aux Basques (approx 700 km) on the abandon railway? Thousands of miles of logging roads and skidder roads including old roads that have been bandon for 50 or 60 years? Transmission lines that criss cross the island? More mud holes than you can shake a stick at? There's a little bit of everything to ride and very little private land to worry about.

I have found the Mudlites to be long lasting as anything else. My Brother-in-law mounted mine at the auto tire shop where he works. They may have difficulty with 11" rims, or maybe not, Mini's had 10" rims in the 60's. I went from 4 ply to 6 and did not notice any difference on my 450.
Would love to take my Honda to my parents place. They live right on the Bay of Fundy 5 months out of the year. It's gotta be nice, we live near Richmond, VA! Only a 26 hour drive.

I soaked the master cylinder in fluid film over night and tried the screws again with an easy-out. Still no luck so I call the local dealer and the master cylinder is $285 plus 13% tax, that's just crazy. I told him what I can get one for south of the boarder and he said that it cost's him $60 more that that amount. So I ordered a new master cylinder for $130 US. Hopefully I don't get nailed too bad with duties. The mfgers certainly know how to stick it to Canadian customers and dealers.
