I just bought a 2006 Kawasaki 750 Brute Force. After approx 150 mi break-in period I decided to see why I bought this thing.
What a dog. Top speed on gravel road was 62 mph and top speed on blacktop was 64 mph.
I complained to the dealer and they were also surprised. They had been telling everyone that bought this machine that they could expect 70-75 mph.(Which is consistant with published reports I've seen.)
I called Kawasaki Management and they were satisfied with that performance.
Does anyone think that the carb modifications for the 2006 models to allow for better starting hurts the performance?
I would love to hear actual digital speedo readings from other 2005 and 2006 750 Brute Force riders.

Thanks in advance ,
dgrozzy

On pavement with the stock tires I would see 72mph at about 65 degrees and about 1400 feet elevation. I just did a couple of high speed runs over the weekend with 25" Bighorns at 8500 feet elevation and only saw 61 on the speedo on a section of straight gravel road. I did not rejet for this elevation. You should see something around 70 at standard temperature and pressure. Standard temperature and pressure is about 70 degrees at sea level. As you increase elevation or raise the temperature performance will degrade somewhat. Bigger tires also effect top speed.

Get a GPS to tell your actual speed then see if you have something to complain about. Has anyone GPS'd a "70mph" machine to see what is is really running?

I used a Garmin etrex vista when I checked mine with the stock tires. My speedo was a little optimistic. Quad speedo said 72, GPS was reading 69 the last time I was checking speeds. It's a little imprecise because it takes a little time for the GPS to catch up. If you can't maintain the speed for 15 seconds or so you might not get an accurate reading. Elevation, ambient temperature, tires, jetting, road surface, wind direction, size and weight of the rider all play rolls in the top speed numbers. I have measured 72mph with my GPS on pavement and I know some people have seen numbers even higher with ideal conditions. I have also seen my top speed as low as 60mph at high altitudes on warm days and on gravel roads.

My '05 is all stock (so far) except a Warn winch kit on the front, and it'll do 69-70 mph per the digital speedometer. I have verified this to be pretty accurate with a handheld gps. I know one thing, it'll easily catch up with my buddy's '05 Griz (not knocking it - the Griz is a fine machine!) and walk right away from it. I'm far from an expert, but I suspect you are not jetted correctly. I have a Dynojet kit for mine, but haven't installed it yet. I expect a lot more low-mid range power if I can get it dialed in; however, it will pull a wheelie with minimal effort now when you have the tranny in low range. More than enough power to get someone like me in a LOT of trouble!

My BF will do 71 mph at 4800 elev it takes a bit to get it up that high My KQ will do 72mph when the rev limiter kicks in and beat my BF to top speed I do have to say that the BF will get it off the line but the KQ will catch and pass the BF

My old 400ex would go 92mph and pass a BF750..........

On the back of my truck right before speed limiter kicked in! LOL! 62 or 72 mph on a big ole' Brute Force is scary fast considering what a sizable machine they are! Impresseive to say the least!

One side note: EVERYONE: Please be careful on your top speed runs, as a good friend of mine that I raced with took a bad spill for an unknown reason two years ago on his race quad doing a test run down a dirt road at approx 70mph, and was found laying in the middle of the road bleeding from the ears. He was lifeflighted to a nearby trauma unit from our ride area. He bruised 3 out of the 4 lobes of the brain, and has residual problems (brain functions) to this day that will be permenant. He was wearing full race gear at the time of the accident too!

Please have fun, but be careful!

If utility atv's are gonna have the power to pull a tank chassis above 65mph, they need to have the agility and handling to negotiate the terrain in a reasonably safe manner. I sure hope the latest "biggest and most powerful utility atv" contest among manufacturers do not hinder the sport in the long run.

You bought a Brute Force for top speed reasons?

It doesn't matter how fast you go as long as you are faster than the guys you ride with! I just thought I should be faster than a 650 Prarie and at least as fast as a 700 Prarie.
I'm only barely faster than the 650 and equal to the 700.

I aggree with you, I was just curious about your wording in your original post about wanting to see why you bought this thing. I understand now, I would expect to be faster myself. I picked up mine a month ago, and I am at 15 hours. I have only had it up to about 62, but it felt like I had plenty more. I dropped it in a pond last week so now I am trying to baby it for a while to get all of the crap worked out of the engine, which hopefully I already have flushed out. You definitely should be faster that what you are running. I am not suprised that Kaw said that, sounds like a normal huge corporation that handles the occasional complaint. I would imagine that your best bet is to post on the Kaw forum, and ask some of the guys that have had their machine tore down to the frame. They should have the best idea of what you should be running, and what you could do to help it. When I finish the babying of mine I will put the hammer down and let you know what I ran. Good luck.

I'll be waiting for your response. I assume you will be running about what everyone else is though. ( 68 mph-72 mph)
I think I just got a dog. It runs ok but it just does not have any top end.

Dont be satisfied with "just having a dog." Knock on some doors and see what you can turn up. Try a different dealer or mechanic. There are thousands of guys on here, someone should be able to help. You payed good money for that machine and it should step up. I will keep my ears open for you and let you know when I run my own. Good luck.

Do you really want to be faster? Call up Mickey Dunlap at Four Stroke Tech in Pa. as he has alot of experiance in Kawi V twins and makes them scream! Also, he is knowledgable about good suspension set ups for the fast Utes.

i think iv owned a couple factory turds myself...lol.i first bought a 04 700 prarie, and on straight roads i could only get 64mph.then i got a 06 brute 750 and returned it to the dealer cuz i hated the way it handled, and i also could only get 65-66 out of that,so i just asked for another 06 700 prarie(i love the straight axles).i put 1,600 miles on it since late 06,and that thing wouldnt go over 64 either.my buddy got a brute 650 and smokes me...69mph steady everytime.i sold the prarie a month ago and im in the air on 08 brute,or 08 KQ??OR EVEN 08 650 BRUTE(I THINK THEY LET THE CLUTCH ENGAGE A BIT MORE CUZ THE SMALLER CC).Although i really like handeling and acceleration more than top speed,i find myself pinned alot down the road wide open, and i love it.iv heard the new 750 brute has a much improved susp.set up,efi, and a few other small dodads,so im leaning that direction,as i cant find a final word on the 750 KQ's performance.from what iv gathered its not that much of a difference from last year, although im still waiting to hear different. i wonder if just killin em from day 1 without much of a break in time restricts the performance(top end speed) or whatever in the long run??as thats what iv done quite a bit in the past.i realize 2 strokes u cant....but 4's??iv never had any noticeable troubles wackin the throttle wide open fresh from the crate....im getting one this week,so any imput would appreciated 585-944-6717

you have more variable in the CVT than the engine. Clutching is an art and the factory isn't into masterpieces. One set up fits all for them. Most snowmobile tuners will tell you that is just wrong. Fine clutch calibration is up to you. If your engine is running right (jetted right, good compression), most of your gains can be made with the CVT. One of the pitfalls of a belt drive.

My 05 BF topped out at 62mph. No complaints here. I ride trails with my quad, not commute to work.

i just dont get why 650 brutes are just as fast as 750's and faster than 700 praries.
......and if my brute topped out 62mph id be slightly bent...but thats just me.
