This machine is really more of a hybrid. It really isn't a full on sport quad, (seeing it is shaft drive and is very heavy), but it is 2wd. I think of it as a sportied up 2wd utility....same idea as what Honda did with the 250EX (derived from the Recon).

Depends on your taste and riding style. If you are looking for a full on sport quad ride, avoid it like the plague. It's 150 pounds to heavy, way to big, and has a high center of gravity. They also freewheel when you let off the throtle, so they don't have engine braking.

A couple of my buddies have them, and they won't ride tight mountain trails with me...they just can't get the big beasts throught the trees and tight turns. They have lots of great stories of rolled quads though!

I like mine.I've had no problems with it except keeping the front end down. They do wheelie really easy.I think they're excellent trail machines.Their automatic with reverse, water cooled and plenty of power.Like reconranger said they're heavy so I would'nt want to race them on a track. That price seems a little high even if it is in good shape but if it makes you happy then go for it.good luck.

They are very dependable. The only problem is tie rods. They are known to be very weak. Although I have never bent mine.

They ride very nice in the trails. Always in the correct gear, no speed too slow.
IMHO anybody that can't ride a quad without engine braking needs to go to a riding class. My 700 has two little handles in front of the handle bars that slow me down just fine.

Just depends on what kind of riding you wan to do.

thanks a lot for the advice guys, i'll keep those points in mind. So qwoder you think that the price is a little bit high. The quad is at the yamaha dealer on consignment. so there's got to be a bottom price that he is willing to go.

I dont know where reconranger heard that sport quads only have manual transmissions. But anyways I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion.I would definitely offer them less money than what they are asking. That may be a good price in your area.I would think you should be able to get one for about $3500 in good shape.Thats just my opinion.

Couldn't maybe be from riding them all for the last 20 years.......

cattt-Dude....no way to mince words on this one.....the KFX is a huge slug! If you must have a 700, get the Raptor! Better yet, one of the ultralight 450's. Or, if you are mostly just a trail rider, then one of the 400's.

The guys I know who bought the KFX were relatively inexperienced. Several had never ridden a sport quad of any kind when they bought it. God only knows why they chose it? It was the only 700 available at the time, and I think they just liked that big number "700".

Ha ha ha, like QWODER said, don't mind reconranger, I think he got sand thrown in his face with a Big Block 700 when he was riding his little 400. You just have to realize that some people have an agenda.

Slug? You want to race my 700 with your 400 reconranger? Go on Kowieriders and see what the 715's and 730's are doing to the 450's let alone the outdated 400 Honda air cooled engine.
VW, Porche and others have seen the light. No more air cooled in any automotive design. Power/ HP is just not there.

There is one thing about the 700's. They arn't a race motor unlike the 450's. This means there is a ton left in them. Pipe and spring them and they are very fast. Put some pistons and cams in them and they are super fast.

The bottom line is this. It just depends on what kind of riding you like to do. Would I MX a KFX 700? AAAAAA NO. Would I try a 50 footer on a KFX? AAAAAA NO. This is not what they were designed for. They have good points and bad points just like everything else.

About the price. That sounds high, but you said it was Can money. Might be about right in Can money. I have not checked the exchanged so I just don't know any more. Should be able to get a very nice 700 for about 35 to 4K in the US.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

I guess reconranger thinks he's the only one that has rode for 20 years.I've rode for 21 years and yes I've rode them all.cattt if you do get a 400,dont get the ex.Its air cooled and you will get spanked alot by them 700 "huge slugs".I'm sure reconranger knows all about that even if he will not admit it.

I have a 2004 that I bought new when they came out for 5800.Now my 12 year old son rides it since I bought a 2008 750 brute.Nice trail machine the Force is.Good low end-bad midrange-ok top end.Have not had one breakdown on it with 2000 miles on it.Good breaks-bad shocks-good tranny-will bring that front end up very easy.A 2004 US is worth $3000.O-40 fast-40-70 slow.Bad on gas.

I bought a 01 sportsman 500 HO once hated it being automatic so couldn't picture a auto sport quad just not me but thats just my OP.

the sportsman I had..had a delay when you would nail it before u even budged hated that!

I personally like shaft drive auto clutch utilitys like the honda 300 but I recently bought a new 07 400ex I'm starting to like it more since it's breakin in and running better but ya if u go sport don't get a auto.

Are you actually trying to compare a 01 sportsman 500 ute to a KFX 700?

If so; I drove a 70 Chevy 1/2 with a 350 and a 4 speed and hated it. I bet if I get a 70 Vett with a 454 and 4 speed I would hate that also because I hated the truck with the 4 speed in it!!! LMAO.

My main complaint with these bikes is the automatic trans. if youre comin up to the face of a jump you dont want the thing jumpin to a new gear on you. It's a very relable machine though and it also has tons of power. Just dont plan on winning any tecnical sections on the trails.
But you will win a drag or two

The tranny wont jump into a new gear because the tranny doesn't have gears.

Its all about what kind of riding you do. I had bought the kfx for my wife to trail ride on. She never got into atv's and I decided to see for myself what these motors are capable of. Lets just say I'm very happy with the outcome.

Yes their heavy and big. I would not take one fast on a MX track but thats not the kind of riding I do. I like to go on trail rides, hit the sand dunes, and drag race. The potential of these motors is huge! It's fun to see the look on the face of the non believers when they get passed!

Not the best choice for everyone, but I'm glad I got one.

i got a terrific deal on my 2004 kfx 700 i only paid 2250 and it only has like 500 miles but thats like a once and a lifetime deal anayway yes their a little heavy but they have plenty of power to back it up they got plenty of speed i use to own a raptor 660 and this kfx i have now i close to around the same speed if not faster so i wouldin't call the kfx 700 slow

yeah i dont know how you could call it a slug?? my buddy owns one all stock and it whooped up on another buddy yamaha 450r all day.
if the one ur riding is that slow then maybe you should remove the srew that is behind the thumb throotle besause you sure as hell aint running it full throttle.

now with that said. ive riden his 700 a few times and it is a pretty powerful machine, wheelies very easy, and comfortable to ride. it is a heavy machine but it doesnt feel like it when riding it. i'd buy one if i could.
