now wait a minute here!!!!!!!! Just because you go out and pay $400 for a helmet, DOES NOT mean you are getting $400 worth of protection.... The biggest thing to look for when buying a helmet is the SNELL rating!!!!! After that....there ALL safe! I payed $75 for mine.....it is SNELL M2000. The difference in mine and a high $ one is the venting/padding. My MR2 fits my head great, but durring the hot summer it does get a touch warm! AVOID the thinking that : More $$$ = More safe!

I agree with you Thrash, but if he's just shopping by price alone, we could end up with some really inane questions form him. Check the rating, bottom line. Bruised banans, ok. Bruised brain, not ok.

I personally haven't seen any GOOD helmets under $50.00. I agree with ThrashandCrash, get a helmet that meets both the Snell 2000 and DOT regs and you will be fine. Those usually start more in the $75.00-$100.00 range though.

MarkFiddling........The DOT rating is just legal for use on roads..... (Department Of Transportation)..it is a generic low standard rating. The Snell is a private rating.....ANY helmet that meets SNELL...Is automatically going to meet the DOT. HERE is SNELL

Go to different dealers and see if they have a sale table or something. I got a $150 helmet for 90 bucks on a sale table. My dad got his for $60. They are both very nice helmets, and we just lucked into finding some last year models that the dealer wanted rid of.
