Well, its coming up fast for us in Ontario, Canada, April 25. Being only 17 years old, I still live with my parents, and I am already driving my mom nuts with my calling, but for my dad, it's music to his ears. I am all prepared and already started patterning birds. Anyone else counting the days?

Here is my first bird last year, a 17 lb jake with 3/4" spurs and a 5" beard.

hahah im not quite that pumped for turkey hunting but ill def be in the woods this spring.

First weekend in May here in Wisconsin is my turkey slayin time. Startin to get the itch too! The smell of hay and dirt and 4 wheeler exhaust in the damp morning! How far do you travel with your atv to get to your blinds?

It depends, If the field is muddy, then we will go the whole way, about 3 kms, but if its dry, we will just take the silverado through it and walk the last km. We mainly use the atv for deer and moose hunting.

where in Ontario you from??? I'm ready to go, Just bought an Undertaker turkey choke today. Been coyote hunting lately and called in 2 coyotes with the box call last week! Got them both with the .223 rem. They answer my turkey calls more then rabbit, howls or anything else. Turkey must be on the top of the food menu right now

I have a spot scouted out on Ft Carson here in CO where I nearly ran over a bunch of turkeys last year while coyote hunting.

This weekend is opening for the season, but I'll be hunting the weekdays when everyone else is stuck at work.

I've been doing quite a bit of scouting over the past few weeks and I've been seeing 3 different flocks on my farm. They've got nice gobblers in them. I counted 28 in one flock, 18 in another and 30 in the flock that hangs around the house. I've got several blind locations set up and scouted out but it seems sorta pointless when 30 turkeys are walking around your back yard and roosting in trees 20 yards from your back door. I had to wait for them to clear out of the driveway when I came home yesterday. One of the silly things almost flew into my windshield.

I've got my Landowner tags ordered and I'm taking a cousin turkey hunting for youth season. That's what I'm looking forward to most.

Got a bunch on my farm as well, and I should be getting one this spring. I was riding around last spring, came across a big blue neck tom who was more interested in Ms. Turkey in front of him than me.

Funny thing - I heard some squawking down in the woods the other day, thought it might have been turkeys. Turned out to be three great blue herons, looks like a pair was running a third one off.

My son gets to go on the Minnesota youth hunt this Saturday. The land owner where his hunt is taking place says there are a lot of birds. He had twelve Toms in his yard all at the same time last week. Two days earlier he was watching birds in his field through binoculars. He lost count at 38 and there were 10 Toms and 11 Jakes. It should be fun for him and I both. He has a Mentor from the NWTF that is actually doing the calling. After the morning hunt there is a luncheon for the kids at the local DNR office where the media will be interviewing them. I don't know who is more excited him or I ?? My hunt takes place May 14th in Wisconsin.

well hell. A gigantic prairie fire on Ft Carson last night wiped out my hunting plans. It was 9000 acres when I went to bed- evacuated entire neighborhoods, shut down the highway.

You could see the glow from my back porch. A firefighting plane crashed and killed the pilot. Only with better weather today have they gotten on top of the fire.

There goes my hunting spot for turkey. Today, literally right this moment I was supposed to be out there chasing down a flock of turkey I scouted late last year.

Instead those birds are already cooked......

Sadly another fire to the south burned down most of a town, which was completely evacuated just in time. Only a couple died there.
