Looking at buying a new 2006 Hawkeye 4x4 for my wife. We are not big time ATVers so please keep that in mind when you reply. Is this a decent machine for my wife to tool around on. Mostly just trail rides through the hills and woods and puttering around campgournds.

What do you think?

I purchased the 2007 LE for my daughter, do a search for hawkeye and you'll see what I have written about this machine. We love it.

My neighbor just bought one for his 16-year old daughter, but I keep seeing him riding it on the trails. He said he loves it and is going to use it for hunting next year and sell his old 250 Trailboss. He said it is geared much better for slow crawling and it is more comfortable than his other machine.

Click on the Polaris forum, and do a search on hawkeye. I think you'll change your mind. I believe it's made by a chinese co. Can you say cheap?

Nothin can compare to a Sportsman, so i figure the hawkeye is just as good.

If you decide you want to buy a Hawkeye, I have a 2007 with 25 miles on it. It's on craiglist/Minneapolis/RV's for 1.1K less than new. I bought it for my son in Sept. 07 and it really hasn't been used at all. I took it out during christmas and went through very deep snow, even though my brother on his 700 Yamaha Grizzly said I wouldn't be able to make it through (he got stuck going up a steep, snowy hill and had to winch himself out, I didn't). Mine is just sitting and it cost way too much to have just 25 miles on it (most of 'em by me) 4 months later. We live in the cities and it just isn't going to be used like I thought it was.

Specifically, you asked if a Hawkeye would be good enough for your wife? My opinion is absolutely yes. In fact, I think it would be good enough for a person of just about any size. It has independent rear suspension with a great ride and is way more maneuverable in the woods or elsewhere than the bigger machines because of it's slightly shorter wheel base. I realize that all of my statements should be taken with a grain of salt as I have mine for sale, so I'd recommend doing searches on Hawkeye reviews, I read a ton of them online before buying mine. Good luck!

I have never owned a Polaris, but I can tell you we had a couple over in Iraq that where used and abused by many, many people with very little or no maintenance and still ran strong in 130 degree heat. I have a photo of one on my photo page if you care to look.

I am on active duty with the Marine Corps; 25 plus years and counting. Returned home from Habbaniyah, Iraq, in July 06 and am back out on the left coast where I am stationed. My ATV riding is mostly in NW Minnesota on a 2004 AC 500 4X4 auto. Out on the left coast I ride a Hawg.
