Welcome to the forums Katie.
I'll presume MX also.
Like mentioned, the LTR comes wide. The new KTM's are the best today IMO. My daughter is racing a Polaris 450S this year. They have KTM motors and are fast. Honda's have the reputation for dependability that the others wish they had. The Can-Am 450 is what I'd get if I couldn't get a KTM.
IMO, a stock machine will do you well to start.
All will need nerf bars and tether switxch (except for the KTM). A pipe (Sparks) will be your first add on. Shocks (PEP of course) will be needed if you plan on long term racing.
We run Maxxis MX tires on Douglas wheels.
Like mentioned, helmet, boots, goggles, gloves, and the Leatt neck brace are needed. All but the neck brace is mandatory at most tracks.
