Are you using the choke? Will it keep running, if you blip the throttle? Have you tried raising the idle speed?

Try putting the choke on part way as soon as it starts
You need to establish if it is getting somuch fuel it won't run or not enough

So
As soon as it fires up move choke about halfway maybe a little more
This will establish the answer
If engine is to lean(not enough fuel) then the engine should pickup and run
If to Rich (to much fuel) it will die

Most likely from what you describe your engine is way lean

have you checked your spark plug if not pull and describe the color
And if wet or dry

Thanks
Ray

From what you are describing it is rich
It would be up to you
Were it mine I would go for the new carb at $65
Worst that would happen is it not work but you would have a new carb to work with
I would look on dratv.com they have carbs
Thanks
Ray

We need to back up
I went out and looked at the carb that came off my 185
Same basic carb as yours
If the choke lever is down the choke is open
If lever is up choke is closed
So
Your carb should be the same you could confirm but I an sure
So that means your engine likes running with the choke on
And as soon as you move the choke it dies
If you open throttle it dies
I am getting a handle on this
your engine is running lean which means either your carb is still plugged
Or you have a Vacum leak in the intake system
I just looked
A carb kit on dratv is about 16 a parts dip is about 26
New carb is about 49
Heck try a new carb for that kind of money it comes out as a wash
Thanks
Ray

You could retorque the head bolts
The book says tighten the 8mm Cap nuts to14 ft-lb
And the 6mmAllen bolts to 9ft-lb
I would give this a try
I am glad the carb worked
I just ordered a bunch of stuff from dratv
For one of my 110s and my trail 70 in getting going again
I will probably get carb for my 185s in June
After dune trip
Thanks
Ray
