I just purchased the above trailboss. It idles fine it starts fine. The previous owner recently had the belt replaced by a shop. It has good take off but it seems to take a second to engage the drive belt on take off. Is this normal after putting new belts on older quads?

Also Like previously mentioned it seems to have good low end, BUT it seems to have terrible top end the best way i can describe the problem is equate to shifting gears when your going up through the gears the acceleration arc goes up till about 3-4 gear then flattens.

I Drove a 2000 trailblazer who certainly had much better acceleration through all gears and still seemed to have plenty of power after. The trailblazer was a 2 stroke 250 and the trailboss i bought was a 4 stroke 325.

I was gong to take the quad to the shop let them do a once over on the bike i was curious if you guys think i should tell them to take a look at anything in particular about those 2 issues or is this common on the trailbosses in 2000?

Could be the ramp buttons on the secondary clutch. Do you know if it has had any clutch work done to it? I might just be the clutch spring.

The blazer will seem to be a little zippier than the boss. Just a 2 stroke/4 stroke thing.

i wish i could explain it a bit better. The top end is substantially lower. It is almost like it bogs down at top end and isnt winding up after what i would call 3-4 gear. almost like a governor was in place limiting the fule going to the carb.

Is it cutting out, or does it just seem like you should be getting more revving out of the engine?

its not cutting out. I guess its like the engine wont get more revs to increase speed It kinda acts like it does when you go into reverse without hitting the over ride but it doesnt act like its missing the same.

best way i can describe it hope that helps.

Sounds like the belt is a little to long, or maybe its a little to narrow, and not up in the seconday like it should be. One thing you need to understand though, you cannot comare the power of the 250 two stroke to the 325 four stroke, theres no comparison lol. I traded my 250 for the 325, lost power and pretty near 10 miles an hr top speed. You might have to take a peek at your belt to see where its riding in the seconday clutch.

Its the buttons in the secondary clutch, take the rear clutch off turn it upside down, there is a snap ring on the back, take it off and the clutch will come apart, pay attention to what holes the spring is in, take the helix away from the sheaves and there are 3 buttons between them that are held by torks screws, these are probably shot. Replace them and be sure to turn the helix 1/3 turn to pre-load the spring, it works better if you have a buddy to help you, then replace the snap ring and enjoy. Dont jump it and hit the ground with the tires spinning and it will last a long time.
