Hey Colorado you guys ever figure out what the 171fmm is patterned after?

Im shipping my ENGINE (yes the whole thing) back to Tim at vbike. Tim swears he's never had a problem with the 250s.
That shift problem is a real puzzler.

Looks like I'm sticking with the 250D.
Got a video if anyone is interested.

Well there was an engine called a CG250 that the 171fmm engine was cloned after, I believe was made by Honda, not 100% on that on though. The TaoTao 250 engine might be made buy Zongshen per Slydog. My engine in my V4S is made by Lifan.

Ya know, your engine is the first one I have heard of with that problem. The shipping is a bummer but Vbikes web site does say that shipping on warranty parts is at the cost of the buyer I agree, that sucks.

Hey Wildwoody, where is a link to the video?, would love to check it out.

Powersportsmax says its based of the Yamaha engine design....it's on the net so it has to be right.........

Tim at vbike says the everything he sells are Lifan's. I don't know if he meant Lifan clones or actual Lifan clones of Honda. And sales guys never lie.

yeah shipping a part back is one thing.....a whole engine though... hmmm sigh.

Let you know how it goes.

The bolts on my V4S engine have the LLL Lifan trademark on them. Here's one of the engine bolts I took a picture of.

Our 150 ATV dosn't have any tradmark signs of Lifan, not sure if Lifan brands everything they make or not.

well here's the thing.....Tim suggested just shipping via USPS. He says its about $40. Apparently they do it all the time.

I'm sure some disgruntled postal person would apprieciate that little gem. LOL

I guess all things considered thats not to bad of a price. I bet that postal worker would like to charge more after pulling a muscle lifting it.

Sorry its 2007 December vintage on the tag.

Latest update. I've contacted TaoTao directly and VBike again.
Before forewarned VBike will tell you they will do anything should there be any problems when you buy something from them but they won't do anything reasonable after you've bought it.
Basic fraud and misrepresentation if you ask me.
TaoTao had me speak with a woman who spoke less than a lick of the queens english and said she'd tell me exactly how to take the engine apart to fix it. Stay tuned for that adventure.
It seem to me I bought an ATV to ride not repair.
Are there any attorneys in Dallas that hang out here?

If anyone has the private email or phone number to the TaoTao USA president please forward that on.

Keep you all posted!!!

I haven't decided wether I'm going to break the law and send hazardous materials through the US Postal Service yet. The oil would have to be more than just drained out of it. I'm trying to squeeze the dealer and the manufacture/importer first.
Hell I'm really interested to see what kinda of technical help I can get on tearing an engine apart over the phone. I should video that shouldn't I?

Alrighty inquiring minds want to know.

here's the video.
This is a 20mb quicktime files so you've been forewarned. Quicktime has the crappy copy protection so I can't convert video with the audio.

The video
