Thanks, Knowsalot
I bought the first Honda 400ex my dealer had gotten in back in Sept/'98.
Some months later when after market parts became available I had the dealer install hotter cam, higher compression piston, higher rev CDI box, pipes, filter and rejetted the carbs.I had all this done because I wanted more power. When Yamaha introduced their Raptor, I got the first one, again, I was looking for more performance. When I found out that My dealer was thinking about getting the Cannondale dealership, I encouraged him to do so and promised him I'd buy the first machine he'd get in.As it turned out I waited till Oct. 01 before I purchased my Cannibal from him.
My dealer leans towards performance and when He learned that I was thinking seriously about racing a quad on local mx tracks, he suggested that I race the Cannondale Moto rather then building up my Honda 400ex. Furthermore he offered to help out on the price, parts and service if I accept his offer. I wasn't all that interested at first but after thinking about it for couple of weeks I ordered the Moto. The clincher for me was the commitment that he made to service my machine to be race ready at all times.
This is what I get out of the deal: 1) A race ready machine that is competative NOW, (don't have to wait weeks to get all the after market component) 2) a terrific service from my dealer and the Cannondale factory, ( I don't think that there are many factory dealers who are working on/ servicing 250R/Roll design/ Lager/ Trinity machines.Nor YZ 426 motored customed framed machines. I don't know what these racers do when they have problems with their machines.I don't know who they would call if their 440 Honda have problems. If I have question/ problem, I know who to go for answers!
What the dealer gets out of our deal. 1) I go to a mx race every week some where. 2) I answer all questions concerning my machine and how I like it. 3) Where did I get My machine and who is my dealer.
There has been great interest shown by my fellow mxer at every race because I think they too realize the benifit of a factory ready/dealer sericeable race machine. I hope I can help out in selling many Motos to my fellow mxers.
Do I get a prefferential treatment at the dealership? you bet! It's also heck of a lot more interesting to talk about races and racing then to watch Goldwing crusing down the freeway.
