Default LT80 gear change...

Just wanted to see if anyone else had or is having trouble with putting the 428 chain on 13T front and 26T rear. Their is way to much slop in the chain and if I remove another link it will be to short. Any help on this or a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Try to find a 1/2 link.
I use #40 chain cuz it's rolls easy, is cheap, and has 1/2 links available.
A 13/26 w/#40 fit's perfect.

Thumbs up

Thanks Jack. I might go with the #40 chain. Ive been looking for a 428 1/2 link but no luck. Do you think it will be OK for duning. I did do the mods (shaved head & clutch) and the LT runs great. Thanks for all your help.

It should be fine. I've not had a failure even in racing.
You buy #40 in 10' lengths. Make extra lengths up and carry one if you go on a long ride.

Brought the #40 chains and it works great. The LT revs up good but would like a little more top end back. I will try putting all the rollers back in. Thanks again for all the help Jack.

What about using one of these chain tensioners to remove the slop. Seems like a better solution...

Tensioners are a good idea.
I still go with the 428 sprockets and 40 chain.
Rider326, tell him how easy your machine rolls now. (I'm betting it does)
I rolled my machines with one finger.

Default Lovin the #40 chain.

I didn't think their would be much of a difference between the two but their is. The LT pretty much rolls on it's own the the #40 chain. I do plan on purchasing a chain roller. I like the one on E-bay fron THE QUAD PARTS STORE. I guess it is just preference. Thanks for the help guys.

What is the difference between a 40 and a 426 chain? I'm assuming they are the same pitch since you are running 426 sprockets with the #40 chain. Where is the best place to pick up 426 sprockets and a #40 chain?

It's 428..
I get chain at the local tractor supply, go-kart shop ow MSC (Industrial Supply Equipment from MSC Industrial Supply).
It's cheapest at the tractor supply for me.
#40 chain is much lighter in strength than 428 or especially 428 HD (heavy duty).
I raced w/#40 at the nationals and locals w/o failure.
