Default Eton Viper 150 won't start, please advise

I have been searching for hours, but have not been able to find much. (probably just not searching very well) My nephew's Eton viper 150 will not start. It has not been ran for at least 6 months, so I am assuming it is an issue with gunk in the carb.

I know almost nothing about atvs, but I have a lawn & landscaping biz, so I am very familiar with small engines. I have removed the carb, and currently most of it is soaking in cleaner. I thought I would take a stab and see if anyone had any other suggestions.

It has spark. The fuel filter seems fine. With the fuel filter detached from the carb, gas pushes through when i engage starter. It will run (briefly) when I spray starter fluid into the air intake (with air filter removed). But dies as soon as the fluid is used up.

Any recomendations, other than to just clean and replace carb?

Thanks for any help,

Ned

The pilot jet may be clogged..It has a very tiny opening that is clogged easily..It sounds like you have verified that it is getting fuel to the carb so that should be ok...I think you are on the right track..Soak the parts and blow them out with compressed air afterwards as well as the carb passages and reassemble....Is the choke working?
