I recently purchased a SunL 110cc ATV for my son. I am new to ATV's and was wondering about these semi-automatic atv's. Should he start out in first gear and then shift while it is moving or do you start out in 2nd or 3rd and stay in that gear. Are these semi-auto ATV's meant to be shifted and down-shifted while moving? Thanks for any help and/or advise.

No worries[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] Us that grew up with them forget about it. When the quad/bike starts, it has to be in neutral. Then start off in first gear...if gears are all up, then pull up once, that is first, start off and then shift while in motion and when you hear the RPMs a going! Try to with hold from starting off in higher gears, it can damage either clutch or gears. However, you will have some that say it doesn't matter. But in the long run, it does. Enjoy and have fun. Don't worry about it, those things are pretty much indestructible, just make sure your son doesn't downshift when its reved up and doesn't rev it up too high like my brother does. Otherwise there isn't much you can do to hurt it, although your son should probably start in first.

The only other tip for an auto-clutch quad is to back off on the throttle a bit while shifting.
