Default How to Adjust Chain Tension on an LT-80

Well, just like where to put the oil in this thing wasn't obvious and I had to ask you guys, I can't figure out how to tighten the chain. What is the secret?? (I hope everything on this quad isn't this mysterious.)

There isn't a way to tighten the chain. The engine transmision is the swing arm so it really doesnt have an adjustment, however you can either purchase an aftermarket chain tensioner or fab one up yourself.

The easyest way is to drill a hole in the brackets that connect the motor and rear end and use a chain roller.

Thanks
Now that I know they built them with no adjustment capability, I'll probably just remove a link (Its that loose!)

I did ours just like that. Mike, you'll find out you cannot take the links out to make it work. You actually have to remove 1.5 links on the larger chain and it will be way too short. We run the sprockets for the 428 chain and use #40 chain. You can buy half links and keep everything like you need it. It also helps out a lot with rolling resistance.

Whats the stock chain size?? 520?? When you change the chain to 428 you have to change the sprockets as well right? Who carries the sprockets?

Edit: found what I was looking for, read it before I posted this but it didnt register

The earlier year 80's ran the 428 and yes you have to change the sprockets and the chain. also they are interchangeable from year to year

It's a good idea, but poorly made.
