history lesson raptorlegs, in 1949 Taiwan became separate from China (can't recall it's former name). It's a big island. it separated during the cultural revolution, Shaing Kai Shek(... my spelling is way off) led a group of non-Mao conformists. But you are right about the trade between them and China.. it's odd...... Kinda like Hong Kong was. BUT, China wants Taiwan back in the Republic and 40% of Taiwanese want it to be part aswell.
sorry for being Cliff Claven... ya.. I've only heard good things about the Etons, other than not great through water.
...and if my lesson is way wrong, blame my 2 Chinese students from Dongguan, China for not explaining it to me more clearly
Since 1949, China has been temporarily divided, and each side of the Taiwan Straits is administered by a separate political entity. Both sides of the Taiwan Straits agree that there is only one China. This is an objective reality that no proposal for China's unification can overlook. However, the two sides of the Straits have different opinions as to the meaning of "one China." To mainland China, "one China" means "the People's Republic of China (PRC), " with Taiwan to become a "Special Administrative Region" after unification.Tawain, on the other hand, considers "one China" to mean the Republic of China (ROC), founded in1911 and with dejure sovereignty over all of China. The ROC, however, currently has jurisdiction only over Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Taiwan is part of China, and the Chinese mainland is part of China as well.
Confusedbuyer I believe it was me who told you about the water levels and that the E-ton had a lower air hole in the transmission cover than most of the other brands.I wondered why they didn't vent out the top of the cover like the Polaris models do.Well I saw a polaris predator with the plastic cover removed and much to my surprise the Polaris has the exact same air hole in the bottom. If you look in my pics you can see a picture with the cover removed so you can see the air hole level. It is just above the floorboards. Its ok to splash above this level but you don't want to be submerged above this level.Even if you could the motors cooling fan would start to suck water. All of the taiwan mini's are basically this same design.
so are these made in Taiwan then? yes, it was you that told me that old yeller, i forgot.
Sorry raptorlegs, you obviously know a lot more about it than i do. I lived up to one of my mottos, "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". but now my handle is even more appropriate, cuz I'm more confused. I guess it's a little like Russia vs. USSR. but my students who are from China figure Taiwan needs to become part of China again.... so they may say one thing about already being part of mainland China (probably to avoid the tanks from rolling/floating in) but the locals interpret it differently. as far as trade is concerned, I don't think it mattters.
more importantly, I got to pass the Cliff Claven torch to you , or do you feel more like Frasier Crane correcting Cliff?
Entertaining & educational at the same time, no problem....
I wouldn't mind hearing more about the tranny hole being a problem if it takes in water. If so, has anybody tried plugging it up or locating it to higher ground, if its possible?

Unless your really gonna be doing a lot of watercrossings above the floorboards its not that big a deal.Like I was saying the design layout of these style mini's puts the cooling fan and stator at about the same level so just sealing the transmission would still not entirely solve the problem. If you are really into crossing deep streams or something up near the seat or over the depth of the engine, I would look at a different style of engine/ transmission. There are quite a few 4 stroker models out there with semi automatic tranny that is sealed up like a regular quad but is your child ready to be able to shift? Also alot of these bikes are over 90ccs.I think the Honda and Suzuki styles are pretty waterproof too if its a really big concern.
