Default 1985 Bayou 185 Starting Help

Hello everybody,

I've done my best researching forum and internet, but still couldnt find an answer so I wanted to post for some help.

I just bought a rough 1985 Bayou 185 automatic from someone who wasnt very knowledgeable about it. I dont have a manual either. He said it was running in November and died on him with no warning. He said he called some parts shops and was told to check out the stator, also wasnt sure about a clicking noise he heard.

The clicking noise is from the fuel pump, when you first turn key on its quick and then slows down to a steady click once every second or so. Is this normal?

I pulled the plug, it looked wet with fuel. I checked for spark and it has spark. The electric start doesnt work, and will not start with a shot of ether. I pulled plug again and didnt look as wet. When I opened the carb bowl drain it did have fuel come out. So, I dont know if Im dealing with just a dirty carb or if there is another reason she wouldnt start? Since I have spark, I am assuming CDI, stator, ignitor and ignition are working properly, is this correct? Since its auto, does it still have a neutral safety I should look at, and if it does, wouldnt it kill the spark?

Im guessing I should just clean the carb but wanted to pick the brains of those more knowlegeable than I. Thanks for your help!
