06 Brute Force 750i power loss to 1 wheel

Hello everyone,

I am new to this site and wanted to see if anyone might be able to help me out.

My problem is I was out riding today and went though a few mud holes and heard a clank. Anyway I got off to look at the bike and didnt notice anything untill my bike didnt really want to go anywhere in 2 wheel drive. Engine power was great but just spun the right rear wheel.. problem is my left rear wheel does not spin or seems as if there is no power going to that wheel. Now when I put the bike in 4 wheel drive it goes fine untill i hammer down on the throttle and the bike pulls to the left because that right rear tire and the 2 front are the only one getting power...

At idle with me looking behind the bike the left rear axle spins but I think it is because it is still attached to the wheel.

Prior to today I heard a small clicking noise like the cv joints were going out on the right rear.

More than likely i have a busted cv joint but I want to get your opinion if that is what is causing me not to have power to just that one wheel.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd say your on the right track. Pull the cv out (you will anyway) and see if it's broke. If not, you probably have a rear diff issue.

There is no rear diff on Brute Forces. It's a straight 1:1 ratio gear box in the rear. Only the front has the diff gear for easier steering. He broke the rear left CV joint axle inside the boot when he spun the wheels in mud holes.

Sorry, wrong wording (car background and they are all referred to as rear diffs....lol).

Is it not possible he could have stripped something in the rear too, besides the axle?

I don't think the original poster is interested in knowing the answer. It's been 5 days and he hasn't made any comment yet. I would if mine broke.

The rear gear case components of BF are bullet proof. Sometimes I've seen the bearing retaining nut coming off inside and BOTH wheels losing the power. But in this case, there were key words:

"went though a few mud holes and heard a clank"

That's the sound of CV joint breaking when the slipping/spinning wheel suddenly gets a traction in the mud hole. I've heard and seen this before.

Luckiliy I've never had to strip mine down, so I think that's a good thing.
