1985 Bayou 185 brakes issues

hey guys i have a 1985 kawasaki bayou 185 and im trying to replace the brakes and i can not get the drum off to get to the shoes. ive been stuck on this for weeks and everyone ive called in east tn has no idea how to fix something this old. please help me

Well, I'm not familiar with the bike in question, I have seen this on cars before.

A couple of thoughts... Usually a brake drum is only held on by the wheel and lug nuts, so if it won't come off, there is usually something hanging it up.

Can you wiggle the drum? If not, try to use a rubber mallet to tap it loose. Sometimes rust will 'glue' the drum to the hub.

If you can wiggle the hub, but it only comes out a millimeter or two, then you might have some build up on the inner edge of the drum that is getting hung up on the brake pad. You can try to use a regular hammer to tap around the inner rim and try to knock the build up loose.

Can you remove the inner shield? This may allow you to see inside the drum and see what you are getting caught on.

0010 is right on.

On any Bayou drum brakes, you only need to remove following to get them off:
> Axle Nut
> Brake Cable Lower End where attaches to the drum
Then the drum.

But the reality is not always easy on unattended drum brakes. It's just stuck on due to rust/corrosion builit up inside. Tap it with hammer, shake it, wiggle it, heat it with torch/heat gun, do whatever imagination you have to get the things apart. It takes much time and much MORE patience! But eventually it comes off. I have the same exact problem on my boat trailer drum brakes which gets dunk in salt water all the time.

When you say axle nut, are you talking about the two nuts on the outside of the drum towards the tire?

I have removed the two nuts , the brake lever connection , the outside brake drum cover ! Is the brake drum itself , threaded on ? and if so , which type of thread does it have ? To me , it seems like it has a left handed thread .
