VIN number should be on the frame somewhere. Towards the front and on the left would be my guess. Get a wet rag and start wiping mud away from the frame tubes till you find it.
A manual can be had from rockymountainatv, bikebandit, ebay, or any place like that online for around $30 or so. Amazon sell lots of used books, maybe they have one for $1 or something.

The VIN is on the left side of the main frame tube, behind the left front tire/wheel. Don't waste your money on an "off" brand manual...go on ebay and find a used genuine Kawasaki KLF220 Bayou service manual. Most parts on the Bayou 220/250 will interchange from 1988 to present. There were some changes in the electrical parts (key switch, harness, etc.) and in the front bumper/front rack. The 250 has a 1.00 mm larger bore/piston, but other than that they're basically identical. Tons of used Bayou parts on ebay.
I rebuilt a Bayou 220 for one of my sons. I learned a few tricks along the way. There are a few pics in my profile. Good luck with your project!

That rang a bell.... Someone posted on here a while back about trying to rig an older CDI on a newer bayou (or vice verse, can't remember). It won't work because they changed the number of wires coming out of the alternator and/or cdi. My Clymer manual has 5 wire diagrams for the bayou.... 88-90, 91-95, 96-99, 00-02, and 03. Actually, I'm kinda impressed with this particular clymer manual. It even has a procedure for testing the cdi. You don't find that very often in atv's. However, in general, clymer usually does leave some things to be desired.

When you start looking to interchange different parts, if you have any questions as to interchangability, go to www.buykawasaki.com, then click on "owner info" and then "parts diagrams". It will help you a bunch with exploded pics, part numbers, etc. You can also enter your VINs there to see what year B220s you have.
