Default Back from our awesome 2 week ATV trip to Newfoundland with lots pictures

Hey everyone,

We finally made it home from our 2 week ATV trip across the province of Newfoundland. We are quite tired, but it was definitely worth it. We took the ferry to Argentia at 4:00 p.m. on August 6th, and we took the ferry back in Port-aux-Basque at 9:00 a.m. on August 21st. It took 15 hours to cross to Argentia, and it took 5 hours to come back from Port-aux-Basque.

We had 10 bikes, 2 trailers, and 13 people on this trip, and we managed to put just under 1300 km's in the 2 weeks of ridding that we did. The weather was awesome, and we had a chance to do plenty of fishing, and site seeing. For anybody thinking of crossing Newfoundland on an ATV, I would highly recommend that you do it. The scenery that we seen, and the people that we met where incredible.

I'm happy to report that both the Prairie 650 and the Bruin 350 worked flawlessly through the whole trip. Crossing Newfoundland on the 650 was a blast, and it was definitely put to the test as it was used to scout for gas and camping areas, and it was also used to pull the trailers up some of the hills that the other bikes couldn’t climb with the trailers. By the end of the trip, everyone was calling the 650 the Cadillac. LOL!!!!!

Our group only had one mechanical problem that was caused by a bad regulator rectifier on a Honda 350ES. The regulator rectifier failed due to some improperly wired lights on the rear storage box on the ATV.

We camped 7 nights, slept in a motel 2 nights, and spent 3 nights at the Backcountry Adventure Lodge in Deerlake.

I plan on doing the trip again next year, but I will do it in 7 days instead of the 2 weeks we took. I will also sleep in a motel every night instead of camping. This will allow us to travel lighter, and get on the trail earlier in the morning. We averaged about 100 km’s per day because the trailers slowed us down a lot. A person can put 200 km’s in a day quite easily. I wouldn’t recommend bringing a trailer to anyone.

I had a chance to meet Traveller (Bill) from this site on the trail. It was nice talking to you Bill, too bad we didn’t have more time to talk. I hope you had a safe trip back to Ontario.

We didn’t have any problems with theft or anything like Kawi650 (Jason) from this site encountered on his trip in early July. We used 60 feet of air craft cables to lock our bikes together at night, covered them up with plastic covers, and all our boxes on our bikes where locked. Thanks for the heads up Jason.

Our group took over 4000 digital pictures, and over 30 rolls of films. I went through the pictures quickly this morning, and uploaded 85 of them to my site. I will be uploading more of them this week. Here is the link to check them out.

I knew they were caribou antlers, but a buck right? It was a redneck joke I guess.
Actually never been out of the states other than Mexico.
Looks like you had a great time though, the country is beautiful.

We didn't catch any big trout, but we did see some huge salmons in one river.

I figured that it cost me, and my girlfriend about $1200 each for the 2 week trip. That included both ferry crossings, 3 nights at the lodge, 2 nights in a motel, our food, our gas, and our souvenirs.

If we hadn't stayed at the lodge 3 nights, we could of did it for under $1000 for the whole 2 weeks, but the lodge was definitly worth it. It was a good rest after 8 straight days on the trail.

OK Dan you stole my pict of the old pump and the bike but I still like mine better LOL I like your rock cliff and bike in Port a bass Picts. Talk about images 2681,1679,0738,1429,1380. THAT POOR TRAILOR, no wonder you hated that thing over there if you need to take a trailor you need to build one for the trip out of quad parts. You had a police escort in stevenville? The honda rack was also a given LOL. the water level was alot lower for you than us this year. I don't see any airplane crash or the newfie network picks what's up with that. Howabout picts from Carbinear or Trinty? I never seen the lodge compeleted yet. That's one heck of a small moose in Howley, I thought it was going to be alot bigger (we were a week too early to see it). I like your shot of the Goobies moose and bikes. That poor guy on the scooter LOL. Did you guys go to the fish latters? How about the second moutain in Port a bass? How about the train cabin in Millertown Junction? (Mont's place). Did you go into the logging camp? I'm surprised you don't have picts of the foxes. Ok start downloading the rest. 1300km is low LOL we went 2064km in 10 days in NL LOL, no 1300km is good ours this year was just over 1300km too, (seven days). I want 10 trips that's a better number than 7 days. The camping thing for us only takes 20 mins up and 20 mins down so it's not bad. I recommend 2 nights camping one in the motel. By the way other than the camping gear my trip cost me $431.00.
