It is not what you are shooting or what scope you have on it, it is how rough you are with it, sounds like you throw it around alot. AlaskaBoy.

polarisman3--this cant be caused by the gun . it sounds to me like external forces at work . i shoot about 500 to 700 rounds a month for the last 5 years in my gun with a tasco tr 4x16x40 and have not made a click of adjustment . i have two other 223cal with 2.5x10x44 aetec and they are my atv rideing coydog chaseing guns and they take a beating with no problems .

This gun gets brought from inside to outside then shot a few times then brought back in. never been nicked or bumped. Not a scratch on this new gun....the dealer said it is very very common for these mini 14's to break or damage scopes.. because of the harsh chamber action. this is not from rough use though.

polarisman3 check your mounts either the mounts may be loosening up or putting the scope in a bind . my minnie 30 has a far more harsh recoil than the 14 and i have only had 1 problem with it . a bad set of ring caps that was putting the scope in a bind and it acually shattered the rear lense after less than 100 rounds on the first scope and cracked lens on the second thats when i new there was a problem . as far as the recoil i use aetec scopes alot on calabers like 375 h&h mag 416 rigby 30-378 weatherby these are serious shoulder cannons with recoil that kills most scopes . i would recamend a trip to your local gun smith for him to examin the mounts or install a composite recoil bushing to absorbe some recoil . this is not a common 14 problem . there are 7 guys on our lacal rife match team shooting 14 s in comp with fragile target scopes with no problems .. if ALL FAILS CONTACT RUGER FOR HELP.. when i said external forces i did not mean to imply you were abusing the gun .

Even a cheap scope will hold up to no more recoil than a 223 puts out, Mini or not. You either need to check the mounts and verify it is on true and not twisting or crushing the tube. I have a cheap Simmons on a AR15 flattop and it hasn't had a lick of problems. Had it on a HK91 before that. Lots of rounds fired through it and it has not been babied. It is possible you just got 2 bad scopes in a row but I would still look at the mounts.

.44 Ruger with the same cross-hair breaking problems. It currently has an el-cheapo Pronghorn that has lasted awhile. ?
