Maxxis Razr tire questions for 300ex
#1
I'm in desperate need to get rid off my stock 300ex tires, would like to buy some razrs but when I went to purchase them online, I suddenly found myself at a delema. I had 6 choices to choose from and unfortuanetly, this would be my first atv tire purchase and I have no idea what size is better. And even worse what in the world each of the dimentions represents. And the whole 4-ply thing, whatever that means.
Anyhow, if someone could point mein the right direction and perhaps give me a little insight on how the different sizes change your style of ride.
These are the options that I was givin:
20x11.00x8 Razr Rear 4-ply
18x10.00x8 Razr Rear 4-ply
20x11.00x10 Razr Rear 4-ply
22x11.00x10 Razr Rear 4-ply
22x11.00x9 Razr Rear 4-ply
20x11.00x9 Razr Rear 6-ply
drr.... im lost lol..

Ex: 22-11-9:
22" is the tires outside diameter (consider that the bigger the number from the size you have now will cause noticeable decrease in acceleration but higher top speed vice versa the smaller the size from your stock tire will increase acceleration but decrease top speed.
11" is the tread width. This is to be considered if you have a wide or narrow rim. Most rims are 9" wide so a 11" tread width is perfect, it also helps to protect rim at the bead.
9" is the inside diameter of the tire. If you have a 9" diameter rim/wheel you MUST have a 9" tire.
The "ply" is the thickness of the tire. The more the ply's the thicker the tire and the more durable it is but it also slightly increases weight. If your racing MX then you want as light of tire as possible and there are no obsticles that can puncture your tire. I think 4-ply is as light as you can get for rear tires 2 ply for front. Depending on your terrain and aggressive riding style you'll have to judge on what ply/weight you want. If you trail ride and don't really care about the extra weight you can't go wrong with a stronger 6-ply tire.
I have 20x11x9 Razr's on my trx350x (250x frame which is the same for the 300ex) and they are sweet. Can't remember if they are 4 or 6 ply, if the razrs are 4-ply then they definitly hold up well.

Thanks alot,
I think I'm going to go with the 20x11x9 Razr's, I'm strongly considering the 6-ply, because I'm alwasy jumping logs and running into stumps, and sometimes riding on really rocky terrain. The only semi MX that I do is on a dirt track that I built near my house and I don't think that weight will effect me at all. Thanks!

I dont no how strong the six ply tires are but I have the 4 plys on mine. Anyways I was riding near lake murry pinned across a sand field when I jumped a small burm and plopped my right rear tire on a jagged stump sticking out of the ground. No pop no leak no nothing, I dont no how strong the six plys are but if the fours can hold up to somthing like that then well I think ill stick to the fours.
