I got a buddy from school with a 1979 XR250, Mods include a homemade straightpipe. He told me to put my 15 tooth back on and race him, he thinks he can outrun a stock 400ex, i kinda chuckled in his face and said "Man you apparently aint never rode a 400EX". The reason why his bike seems so fast to him because he has had a recon all his life. Do you guys think he is full of **** or do them old bikes actually run that good?

It depends on the power to weight ratio. You could actually be beaten by a CR125 with the right rider and mods.

you could at least give it a try.

scenario:

you beat him : he shuts up
he beats you : he never shuts up

looks like you better win!!

Depends on how long of a race you have, the XR will almost beat you for sure in a top speed race but up to that who knows, because of the bikes lighter weight it could be a good race.

Unless the rider on the cr125 is a paraplegic it would waste a 400ex and raptor and banshee. Probably the only quad ever made that could hang with a 125 motocross bike is a lt500, all stock ofcourse.

My money is on the xr250 unless it's a total piece of chit.

Depends. If he doesn't have his exhuaust set up right he wont have enough backpressure and his bike will run like crap. But it will still make power on the top end. Just gotta wait and see. But I will admit the XR250 is pretty slow.

Well the truth came out and im sure he will keep his mouth shut now, He caught me in a bad mood up town saturday night up town and said he could smoke me and i just looked at him and asid "go get that piece of **** and meet me back at my house" He went and got it and when we took off we raced till we were both tacked out and i was about 10-12 bike lengths ahead of him, that poor ol bike is rough, Well just thought i would update ya.
